How do you make our customers happy?
Shopping is akin to running a race; the final stretch can be surprisingly tough. A customer who’s ready to buy can still pull out. Because of a sudden doubt, an unclear detail, or an unintuitive button placement. As the Senior Product Designer AI – Conversion Optimization, you prevent that from happening and keep every customer moving happily past the checkout. That’s your playing field: the product page, the shopping cart, the checkout flow. You ensure customers know what they’re buying, who they’re buying from, and that they can pay effortlessly. No workarounds, no dark patterns. Just smart, often AI-powered solutions that foster growing trust among 13.7 million customers.
The biggest challenge
Speed and attention to detail need to go hand in hand. AI tools let you discover in a morning what used to take a week: generating variants, setting up prototypes, and making hypotheses tangible. But in your domain, a single ‘wrong’ flow can have grave repercussions. On conversion. On customer trust. On accessibility. How do you maintain pace without sacrificing consistency, design discipline, and compliance? And how do you keep the customer’s voice heard by a team that’s working ever faster? The role calls for someone with the confidence to move quickly, and the composure to hit the brakes when needed. Even when the blinking AI cursor is tempting you to proceed.
What you'll do as Senior Product Designer AI – Conversion Optimization
You’ll help improve one of our fixed journey products: either Decide to Buy (product page) or Checkout Experience (shopping cart and payment flow). Here, you’ll build deep domain expertise and develop partnerships with engineers, the product manager, and analysts.
You’ll also be part of a virtual conversion optimization team that experiments and iterates across both products. The majority of your time, you’ll make an impact as a member of that virtual team. Where designers, engineers, and product analysts combine forces to test hypotheses and maximize conversion. This role combines the best of both worlds: a baseload that calls for deep content expertise and the freedom and ownership to make your mark through focus, collaboration, and fleetness.
AI tools are long-term colleagues, not ‘hired help’. Copilot, FigmaMake, and Claude help you explore variants faster, build testable prototypes more efficiently, and accelerate repetitive work. But AI output is your starting point, not your finishing line, because you personally ensure that every proposal and solution aligns with the bol design system, meets accessibility requirements, and feels consistent to the customer. In practice, that entails:
Initiating user research and making customer insights the driving force behind product decisions
Building prototypes on the fly to make the impact of different solutions tangible and testable
Designing, running, and evaluating A/B experiments with the team: what works, for whom, and why?
Deploying AI tools where they genuinely add value with clear guardrails to ensure quality and accessibility
Supporting engineers with solid handoffs: flows, states, edge cases, web/app patterns, and so on
Communicating design choices clearly. Not by discussing ten possible options and every meandering eventuality, but by providing a few well-motivated alternatives
Improving how the team works, for example, by exploring innovative methodologies and embedding new best practices in the design community
Why you can make a difference
You consider customer understanding at least as important as design skills. With 7+ years of experience as a product designer, you’re proficient in discovery, UX research, UX/UI, and advanced prototyping, and you know how to create impact in commercial settings. You’re analytically strong, pragmatic, and willing to make calls before all the data is in. You work autonomously but never in isolation: you actively involve engineers, analysts, and product managers, and keep stakeholders on board through clear communication. To you, AI isn’t a nice-to-have but an essential toolkit that you leverage critically and skillfully. This role requires strong English skills; Dutch is a plus.

-
Discovery marathon runner
You believe a meaningful discovery phase should take at least a quarter.
-
AI pass-through
Whatever Claude spits out goes straight to engineering. Accessibility, design system, and edge cases? Someone else’s problem.
-
Gift wrapping fan
A clear brief, a neat handoff, a closed ticket? Those are the only kinds of work you want to see.
+
Rapid developer thinker
Hypothesis, prototype, experiment, learn, repeat. You get energy from environments that evolve each week, not from fine-tuning the same thing for three months.
+
Trust builder
Conversion is the result of great product design. Customers who understand what they're buying, buy more often. Full stop.
+
AI value amplifier
You use AI to accelerate our understanding of what works, not just to deliver faster.
Here's where you'll land
You’ll work in a multidisciplinary environment where experimentation is encouraged, and ownership is expected. You’ll be part of an enthusiastic design community that shares knowledge through show & tells, feedback sessions, and informal meetups. With 13.7 million customers and 47,000 partners, the scale of your work is immediately tangible. A successful experiment in checkout touches millions of people. Tell us what you’re proud of in your application, how you grow when experiments don’t work out, and why you think this should be your next step.
