You will be working as an AI Research & Developer Assistant (0.8-1 FTE) at AI Makerspace and Cradle, a research & development team within the Academy for AI, Games and Media (AGM) at Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas). This informal yet ambitious team combines academic rigour with a hands-on, start-up-like energy. Your projects will vary in scope and objective, but they all share the same ambition: delivering quality outcomes that push innovation forward. As many projects involve external partners, you bring both professionalism and proactivity to everything you do.
Your responsibilities will include designing, developing, and optimising AI models for a wide range of applications — selecting the right ML architecture and techniques based on the goal, dataset, and hardware at hand. You will implement containerisation strategies to ensure AI models are scalable, reliable, and easy to maintain, and design back-end services and infrastructure to support deployment, data pipelines, and integration with front-end applications and third-party systems.
A significant part of your work will involve robotics, computer vision, and physical AI projects — from model training and evaluation through to integration with real-world robotic platforms. You will collaborate closely with software developers, data scientists, and product teams, and you will also contribute to education by supervising students, coaching them, and occasionally delivering lectures. Finally, you will document and present your work through industry reports and peer-reviewed publications, ensuring transparency and reproduction across all projects.
