The R&D Laboratory Manager and Technologist role at Delrin® is an exciting opportunity to lead a small, highly technical team and manage the day-to-day operations of our Dordrecht, NL laboratory. This position is ideal for a motivated team builder who combines technical expertise with strong organizational skills and a commitment to safety and data integrity. You will play a key role in ensuring accurate testing, reliable lab operations, and effective team collaboration in a dynamic, innovative-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and develop a small, highly technical lab team, fostering collaboration and a culture of safety and quality.
- Mentor team members in technical skills, lab best practices, and professional development.
- Set clear performance expectations and conduct regular feedback conversations to drive accountability.
Release Property Testing & Production Support
- Own and manage the end-to-end release property testing process, ensuring timely execution and on-schedule delivery of test results to support production release decisions.
- Serve as the primary laboratory interface with the global production, quality and R&D teams, establishing clear communication channels, shared timelines, and escalation protocols.
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve standardized testing protocols for release property characterization, ensuring reproducibility and data integrity.
- Proactively manage testing workloads and prioritization to meet production schedules, flagging capacity constraints or risks with sufficient lead time.
- Act as a subject matter expert in plastics and polymer characterization and support global lab testing uniformity.
Laboratory Operations Leadership
- Manage day-to-day laboratory operations, including workflow coordination, facilities and supplier management, vendor interactions, and equipment calibration.
- Ensure operational excellence, maintaining equipment standards, safety protocols, and compliance with data integrity requirements.
- Maintain high-quality standards for data collection and analysis; track performance and implement corrective actions to ensure standards compliance.
- Drive continuous improvement, contributing to the development of new test methods and operational efficiencies.
Ideal Profile
- Proven ability to lead and mentor a technical team, fostering collaboration and accountability.
- Educational Background: Master’s degree in engineering or physical science, or Bachelor’s degree with significant industrial experience.
- Skilled in measurement analysis and statistical methods; Six Sigma experience preferred.
- Strong background in LIMS, SAP and data visualization tools preferred.
- Demonstrated experience managing laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance and vendor coordination.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Skilled in MS Office and familiar with instrumentation software; ability to maintain and troubleshoot lab equipment.
- Strong time management and ability to develop innovative solutions for testing and operational challenges.
- 7+ years in an industrial laboratory environment, preferably with expertise in thermoplastic material molding, testing and characterization.
- Fluent in Dutch and English; familiarity with German and French is an advantage.
- Position will be onsite at Dordrecht NL.
