For our engineering team in Rotterdam, we are looking for a Mechatronics engineer who will play a key role in developing advanced chromatographic applications and shaping next-generation analytical instruments. In this role, you will translate complex analytical challenges into robust solutions, contributing directly to innovative GC technologies used worldwide.
Main responsabilities:
- Design and develop integrated mechatronic solutions for advanced analytical instrumentation (as GC, GC×GC, GC‑MS, Elemental and sample handling systems)
- Translate customer and product requirements into functional concepts and detailed technical designs
- Integrate sensors, heaters, valves, actuators and control electronics into reliable and high-performance instrument modules
- Create and maintain 3D models and assemblies in SolidWorks to support layout, integration, and prototyping
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, and application engineers to ensure seamless system performance and integration
- Support prototyping, testing, and validation activities, including troubleshooting and root cause analysis of complex system behaviour
- Contribute to modular and scalable system architectures for custom and configurable analytical solutions
- Contribute to continuous improvement of existing products, focusing on reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability
- Support introduction of new designs into production, including documentation and technical guidance during implementation
Required skills and background:
- Bachelor’s degree (HBO) in Mechatronics or a related field
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in mechatronic system design and integration
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, combined with basic knowledge of electronics and control systems
- Hands-on experience with 3D CAD (preferably SolidWorks) for assemblies and system layout
- Experience with sensors, actuators, heaters, and control components used in precision instrumentation
- Practical knowledge of control systems (e.g., PID tuning) and system behaviour in thermal and flow-driven applications
- Experience with troubleshooting complex multi-disciplinary systems and performing root cause analysis
- Affinity with analytical instrumentation, laboratory equipment, or high-precision systems is a strong advantage
- Strong problem-solving skills with a structured and analytical approach
- Good communication skills in English (Dutch is a plus), with the ability to work in cross-functional teams
What we offer:
- A unique expert role with high responsibility and autonomy.
- A collaborative and informal work environment with a Rotterdam spirit: open, direct, and supportive.
- A chance to learn continuously from unique and innovative products, with access to training and courses
- A friendly and close team of six experts, part of a wider engineering group of about 20 people as part of the location in Rotterdam with over 80 employees.
- Hybrid working possibilities, with a culture of preferring in-person collaboration at our Rotterdam office.
