ALGEMEEN DOEL VAN DE FUNCTIE
De Assistant Controller is verantwoordelijk voor het waarborgen van nauwkeurige, volledige en tijdige financiële rapportage, ondersteund door betrouwbare onderliggende gegevens en in overeenstemming met de toepasselijke boekhoudnormen en wetgeving. De functie speelt een sleutelrol in de maandelijkse en jaarlijkse afsluitingsprocessen, evenals bij het ondersteunen van budgettering, prognoses en financiële analyse. Daarnaast draagt de Assistant Controller bij aan de ontwikkeling en verbetering van financiële systemen, processen en interne controles ter ondersteuning van een schaalbare financiële functie. De functie coördineert compliance-activiteiten, waaronder fiscale en wettelijke vereisten, en ondersteunt auditprocessen in samenwerking met externe adviseurs. Het dynamische karakter van de functie vereist het uitvoeren van diverse ad-hoc taken en een actieve bijdrage aan de groei en professionalisering van de financiële functie, waarbij rechtstreeks wordt gerapporteerd aan de Finance Director EMEA.
ESSENTIËLE TAKEN EN VERANTWOORDELIJKHEDEN
Financiële rapportage & afsluiting
- Verantwoordelijk zijn voor en voortdurend verbeteren van het maandelijkse afsluitingsproces
- Opstellen van nauwkeurige en tijdige financiële overzichten en managementrapportages
- Zorgen voor de juiste documentatie en auditgereedheid van de financiële administratie
Boekhouding & Compliance
- Toezicht houden op de dagelijkse boekhoudkundige activiteiten (crediteuren, debiteuren, grootboek)
- Coördineren van de naleving van belastingwetgeving in meerdere Europese markten (btw, aangiften), waarbij waar nodig wordt samengewerkt met externe adviseurs
- Ondersteuning bieden bij wettelijke rapportages en audits
Planning & Analyse
- Ondersteuning van budgettering, prognoses en financiële planning
- Inzichten verschaffen in bedrijfsprestaties, marges en belangrijke drijfveren
- Samenwerken met het management om financiële gegevens om te zetten in concrete beslissingen
Verbetering van processen en systemen
- Financiële processen, controles en workflows opzetten en optimaliseren
- Help bij het implementeren en verbeteren van financiële systemen en tools
- Stimuleer automatisering en efficiëntie in de financiële bedrijfsvoering
Samenwerking met de business
- Samenwerken met teams in het hele bedrijf om ervoor te zorgen dat de financiële afdeling de groei ondersteunt
- Fungeren als brug tussen financiën en de bedrijfsvoering, waardoor betere besluitvorming mogelijk wordt
Uitbreiding van de financiële functie
- Ondersteuning van uitbreiding naar nieuwe markten, producten en entiteiten
- Help bij het opzetten van schaalbare structuren, beleidsregels en controles
- Beheer relaties met externe accountants, auditors en adviseurs
KWALIFICATIES / VAARDIGHEDEN
Om deze functie succesvol uit te voeren, moet een persoon in staat zijn om elke essentiële taak naar behoren uit te voeren. De onderstaande vereisten geven een beeld van de vereiste kennis, vaardigheden en/of bekwaamheden.
- Grondige kennis van boekhoudkundige principes en financiële verslaglegging
- Zich comfortabel voelen met het end-to-end beheren van processen, van transactiedetails tot inzichten
- Praktisch, gestructureerd en detailgericht, met een proactieve instelling
- In staat om te functioneren in een dynamische, veranderende omgeving
- Sterke analytische en probleemoplossende vaardigheden
- Uitstekende communicatieve vaardigheden, met het vermogen om crossfunctioneel te werken
- Uitstekende beheersing van systemen (bijv. Exact Globe, Excel, ERP-systemen), met vloeiend Nederlands en Engels
OPLEIDING EN/OF ERVARING
- 3–5 jaar ervaring in financiën, boekhouding of controlling
- Diploma in boekhouding, financiën of een verwant vakgebied
- Ervaring in een omgeving met meerdere entiteiten of een internationale omgeving
- Bekendheid met Europese btw- en belastingstructuren
- Ervaring met moderne boekhoudtools (bijv. Exact, NetSuite, Xero) en/of BI-tools
- Ervaring bij een startup of snelgroeiend bedrijf

The Opportunity:
The Assistant Controller is responsible for ensuring accurate, complete, and timely financial reporting, supported by reliable underlying records and compliant with applicable accounting standards and legislation. The role plays a key part in the monthly and annual closing processes, as well as supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis. In addition, the Assistant Controller contributes to the development and improvement of financial systems, processes, and internal controls to support a scalable finance function. The position coordinates compliance activities, including tax and statutory requirements, and supports audit processes in collaboration with external advisors. The dynamic nature of the role requires handling various ad hoc tasks and active contribution to the growth and professionalization of the finance function, reporting directly to the Finance Director EMEA.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Close
- Own and continuously improve the monthly close process
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and management reports
- Ensure proper documentation and audit readiness of financial records
Accounting & Compliance
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations (AP, AR, general ledger)
- Coordinate tax compliance across multiple European markets (VAT, filings), working with external advisors where needed
- Support statutory reporting and audits
Planning & Analysis
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes
- Provide insights into business performance, margins, and key drivers
- Partner with leadership to translate financial data into actionable decisions
Process & Systems Improvement
- Build and optimize financial processes, controls, and workflows
- Help implement and improve finance systems and tools
- Drive automation and efficiency across finance operations
Business Partnering
- Collaborate with teams across the company to ensure finance supports growth
- Act as a bridge between finance and operations, enabling better decision-making
Scaling the Finance Function
- Support expansion into new markets, products, and entities
- Help establish scalable structures, policies, and controls
- Manage relationships with external accountants, auditors, and advisors
Qualifications & Experience:
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
- Comfortable owning processes end-to-end, from transactional detail to insights
- Hands-on, structured, and detail-oriented, with a proactive mindset
- Able to operate in a fast-paced, evolving environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functional
- Strong systems proficiency (e.g., Exact Globe, Excel, ERP systems), with fluency in Dutch and English
