About the Program:
WRI Europe is a rapidly growing regional office which engages with colleagues from all WRI’s Global Programs and centers, collaborating with European partners for change in and outside the European continent. Europe is home to a vast network of influential partners who can enhance WRI’s capacity for impact globally and can help unlock new sources of financing. WRI Europe’s Partnerships and Engagement function ensure coordination between WRI teams and external partners, maximizing the breadth, reach, and results of WRI’s collaborations. It works on strengthening institutional relationships and supporting business development with a limited number of strategic partners based in Europe.
Internship Highlight:
The intern will work with WRI teams as well as external partners such as universities, think-tanks, and corporate institutions, creating strong structural links based on reputation, funding, and/or knowledge and networks. In this position, you will learn how partnerships are nurtured, developed, and maintained; and what types of engagement practices and tools can be applied in the environmental and development fields.
In this role, you will contribute to:
- Research dissemination – improving WRI’s research availability and accessibility within European partners and decision/policymakers
- Joint projects and fundraising – creating impactful knowledge partnerships and identifying joint fundraising opportunities
- High-level visibility – identifying opportunities to raise WRI’s visibility and profile in Europe
What you will do:
Your internship supervisor will be WRI Europe’s Partnerships and Engagement Lead.
Convening and engagement (40% time)
- Support the organization of strategic communication and advocacy opportunities, such as yearly partnerships events and workshops, presentations, and sessions at international summits
- Assist with meetings management and other internal/external communication tasks
Partnership research and analysis (30% time)
- Perform periodic mapping and research on partners of interest for the EU program and Europe strategy, in coordination with WRI Europe EU Desk team and program colleagues.
- Assist in monitoring and reporting of activities, deliverables and follow ups from WRI Europe’s partnership portfolio
Fundraising and project development (30% time)
- Collaborate with development colleagues and project teams to identify, develop, and pursue funding opportunities with strategic partners
- Analyze policy priorities and funding instruments, support drafting of concept notes and internal briefings
What you will need:
- Currently pursuing a degree in International Relations, Environment Studies, Development Studies, Political Science, Communication, or related field (graduate program preferred)
- Good knowledge of project management, communication, and design tools such as MS Office, MS Teams, PowerPoint, Canva, or others
- Strong communication skills, experience with writing memos, meeting notes, briefings, concept notes
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Interns at WRI Europe must be registered in a study program with a Dutch college or university for the full duration of the internship.
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken)
Conditions of the internship:
- This is a 4-6 month internship starting on 21st September 2026.
- This internship will be based at the WRI Europe office in the Hague with some flexibility to work from home
- This internship offers a reimbursement of 700 euros per month based on full-time working hours (32 hours per week).
