You will design, build and maintain Haskoning’s data engineering layer: the data integration layer that connects internal and external source systems and data consumers. The role focuses on reliable, reusable and governed data pipelines, transformations, harmonisation and published data services/endpoints that enable reporting, analytics, automation, digital twin initiatives and AI use cases across the organisation.
You work closely with the Data Architect, Enterprise Automation, ED&C Applications, Digital & AI, IT Operations & Services, business/CG data owners and analytics teams. You translate data needs into secure, maintainable and well-documented data services, while keeping clear boundaries between data engineering, data ownership, and analytics/reporting responsibilities.
- Build and maintain data pipelines and integration flows that collect, transform, harmonise and distribute data from source systems to data consumers.
- Design, publish and maintain reusable data services/endpoints, including technical data contracts, datasets, APIs or other agreed delivery mechanisms for organisational use.
- Engineer and improve cloud-based data platform components, orchestration, monitoring, logging and deployment routines in line with architecture, security and service management standards.
- Collaborate with the Data Architect and other stakeholders to define integration patterns, data structures, metadata requirements and ownership boundaries for new and existing data flows.
- Operate the data engineering services with clear documentation, incident/change discipline, continuous improvement and measurable reliability of critical data flows.
Scope and mandate:
- operate as the named specialist for the data integration layer and reusable data engineering services within Enterprise IT & Services;
- build, maintain and continuously improve data pipelines, transformations, harmonisation logic, orchestration and published data endpoints;
- support the Data Architect in translating data architecture principles into practical, secure and reusable engineering patterns;
- enable data consumers by providing stable data services that can be used by analytics teams, applications, automation initiatives, digital solutions and AI use cases;
- ensure that data engineering responsibilities are clearly separated from business data ownership, master data management, data governance and analytics/report development.
At Haskoning, you will join an independent, employee-owned international consultancy that combines engineering, design, and consultancy services with software and technology. Our mission, “Enhancing Society Together,” drives us to create a positive impact on the world.
We offer purpose-driven and challenging work in diverse international projects, leveraging our 140+ years of expertise. With over 6,800 employees in more than 25 countries, we work together to turn challenges into opportunities and make a real impact on society. We collaborate with leading clients in markets such as infrastructure, climate resilience, renewable energy, decarbonisation of industry, and sustainable mobility.
As our new Data Engineer, you will become part of the corporate group Digital & Workplace Solutions (DWS) in the Netherlands. DWS provides services to the internal organisation, enabling colleagues to serve their clients in the best possible way.
DWS’s activities are divided across three domains: Enterprise IT & Services, Real Estate & Facility, and Digital & AI. In addition, there is a separate team for information security. The structure of DWS was recently reorganised to allow the three domains to come into their own more effectively. As a result, several new roles have been created, including that of Data Engineer. This role will be part of Enterprise IT & Services. Data Engineering is a focused capability responsible for our data platform and engineering across units: collecting and connecting data sources to data consumers, building and maintaining data pipelines and infrastructure, transforming raw data into usable formats, and enabling data integration and accessibility. The function is foundational for data-driven decision-making and Haskoning’s AI ambitions.
- Minimum 5–7 years of hands-on experience in data engineering, data integration, or cloud-based data platforms, with proven responsibility for designing and operating production-grade data pipelines in complex enterprise environments.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a closely related field.
- At least one relevant industry-recognised certification in cloud data engineering.
- Proven experience designing, building and maintaining production-grade data pipelines, including data collection, transformation, harmonisation, distribution, monitoring and error handling.
- Strong practical experience with data platform technologies, including data lakes or data warehouses, SQL, Python and orchestration/integration tooling.
- Demonstrable ability to provide reusable data services or endpoints to data consumers, including clear interface definitions, documentation and operational ownership of critical data flows.
- Good understanding of data security, access control, metadata, data modelling principles, DevOps/CI-CD practices and the interface with data governance and master data management.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience in a professional services, engineering, consultancy or similarly project-driven international organisation.
