Role : Systems Engineer - Public Sector Netherlands

At Fortinet, our mission is to safeguard people, devices, and data everywhere. We are currently seeking a Systems Engineer to contribute to the success of our rapidly growing business. The Systems Engineer's main mission will be to support the sales organization in all technical matters regarding pre-sales , sales calls .

As a Systems Engineer you will:

Assist in qualifying sales leads from a technical standpoint (Pre- sales )

Be the main technical resource on sales calls and answer / educate the customer on issues ranging from features , specifications and functionality to integration .

Conversant with networking applications and solutions .

Provide assistance to identified customers with post- sales training .

We are looking for :

An insightful and influential cybersecurity professional who thrives at the intersection of technology , business , and risk . You bring a modern security mindset , strong collaboration skills , and the ability to translate complex cyber challenges into impactful solutions .

We encourage you to apply if you meet the following criteria :

Full professionally fluency in Dutch

2–5 years of experience in technical or pre-sales roles (e.g., Systems Engineer, Security Engineer, or Solutions Architect ), preferably within cybersecurity domains

2–5 years of experience managing or architecting enterprise IT environments , including hybrid cloud , on- premises , and distributed networks

Core Cybersecurity Expertise

Strong understanding of modern network and cybersecurity fundamentals , including :

DNS ( with focus on DNSSEC, DoH , DoT )

Secure application protocols (HTTPS, HTTP/2, HTTP/3)

Email security (SMTP security extensions , DMARC, DKIM, SPF )

Transport and network layer security (TCP/IP, IPv6, segmentation , Zero Trust principles )

Solid knowledge of modern cybersecurity technologies , including :

Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA)

Secure Access Service Edge ( SASE ) and Security Service Edge ( SSE )

Identity and Access Management ( IAM , IGA , CIEM )

Endpoint Detection & Response ( EDR/XDR )

Network Detection & Response ( NDR )

Cloud security platforms ( CNAPP, CSPM, CWPP )

Data Protection technologies ( DLP , encryption at rest /in transit )

Threat Intelligence and Security Analytics ( SIEM, SOAR )

Protocols , Standards & Cryptography (State- of - the -art)

Strong understanding of modern secure protocols and standards , including :

TLS 1.3 ( preferred over SSL/TLS legacy versions )

IPsec (IKEv2) and modern VPN alternatives (e.g., ZTNA )

OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), SAML 2.0

802.1X (Zero Trust Network Access / NAC integration )

REST API security and token-based authentication

Experience with modern cryptography and identity standards :

Public Key Infrastructure ( PKI ) and certificate lifecycle management

Strong hashing algorithms ( SHA-256 / SHA-3 )

Encryption standards ( AES-256, ECC )

Hardware- backed key protection ( HSM, TPM )

Posture awareness of post-quantum cryptography (PQC) trends (nice to have )

Awareness of deprecated / insecure protocols and transition strategies :

Migration away from MD5, SHA-1, DES, 3DES, SSL, legacy IPsec configurations

Security Architecture & Practices

Experience with secure architecture design aligned to frameworks such as:

NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF)

ISO/IEC 27001 / 27002

CIS Critical Security Controls

Zero Trust principles (NIST SP 800-207)

Knowledge of :

Network segmentation and microsegmentation

Secure DevOps ( DevSecOps ) principles

Cloud-native security controls (AWS, Azure, GCP)

API security and modern application security practices (OWASP Top 10)

Education:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (MBO/HBO)
