Electrical Technician

For our customer, the European Space Agency (ESA), we are seeking an experienced Electrical Technician to work at ESA’s ESTEC site in Noordwijk, The Netherlands.
Job description
You will be integrated into the customer as a team member providing maintenance and operational support for the European Space Power Laboratory (ESPL) under the Power Systems Division (TEC-EP), part of ESA’s Directorate of Technical and Quality Management (TEC).
The Laboratory consists of several facilities dedicated to electrical testing of batteries, fuel cells, solar generators and power electronics. These activities support ESA spacecraft projects, external customers and the validation of innovative technologies developed under ESA R&D programmes.
Responsibilities
You will support day-to-day laboratory operations including:
- Integration and maintenance of electrical test equipment.
- Support for commissioning and operation of laboratory facilities.
- Preparation, execution and monitoring of electrical tests.
- Maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting of laboratory electrical equipment.
- Supporting electrical installations and infrastructure required for test activities.
- Assisting in the development and maintenance of laboratory documentation and procedures.
- Supporting electrical safety checks and ensuring compliance with laboratory safety regulations.
- Maintaining test equipment inventory and calibration records.
- Supporting laboratory infrastructure availability, including power distribution and related systems.
In addition, on an as-needed basis, support other maintenance and evolution tasks including:
- Support to maintenance plans and infrastructure upgrades for laboratory facilities.
- Support during installation and commissioning of new equipment and electrical systems.
- Maintaining up-to-date documentation and logbooks for electrical hardware, safety inspections and maintenance activities.
- Supporting laboratory operations during exhibitions, demonstrations and events.
Safety & Compliance
The role requires strict adherence to ESA and ESTEC safety procedures and regulations.
The successful candidate will support and contribute to mandatory laboratory safety inspections, including:
- Periodic electrical safety inspections according to NEN 3140.
- Support to safe operation and maintenance of low-voltage electrical installations and laboratory equipment.
- Collaboration with ESTEC site services regarding infrastructure and safety systems maintenance.
- Awareness of safety devices and systems such as oxygen detectors and liquid nitrogen safety installations.
Knowledge of NEN 3140 is considered highly important for this role.
NEN 3140 is the Dutch standard governing the safe operation of and work on low-voltage electrical installations and equipment, ensuring prevention of electrical hazards, shocks and fire risks in compliance with Dutch safety regulations.
This position is:

Some out-of-hours on-call support may be required for long-duration tests.
How to succeed in this position?
The successful candidate shall have:
- A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering or similar.
- At least 4 years of relevant professional experience in a technical or laboratory environment.
- Experience with electrical equipment maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration.
- Good knowledge of electrical laboratory operations and safety procedures.
- Familiarity with low-voltage electrical systems and electrical installations.
- Knowledge of electrical safety inspections and standards, preferably NEN 3140.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Good English language skills, written and spoken.
Desirable
- Experience within high-tech or space-related environments.
- Experience with high-voltage installations.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality systems.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations applicable to laboratories.
- Experience supporting laboratory infrastructure and technical facilities.
