ACADEMIC ENGLISH TEACHER

The Tilburg University Language Center offers language courses in ten languages as well as academic skills courses to approximately 5,000 learners and students each year. The English department offers both electives for students across the university and curriculum courses for the various programs, most notably Economics and Law. For the fall semester (August 2026 – January 2027), the English department is looking for an academic English teacher to partially replace a colleague on extended sick leave.
Your position
You will work in a team of 7 other academic teachers. Specifically, you will be teaching several academic writing and presenting classes for second-year business & economics students and one or more freshman English legal and academic communication courses in the Global Law program as well as possibly an academic writing course for PhD researchers. Courses have been prepared and all course materials are available, but alterations to suit your own style or suggestions on how to make the in-class activities more engaging are welcomed. Other courses you will be teaching will depend on your expertise, preferences and practical scheduling logistics. Teaching takes place on site in groups of max. 25 students.
Your profile
- You have at least a Master’s degree in English, Applied Linguistics or similar field with an official teaching qualification.
- You have experience teaching academic (and preferably also legal) English at a high level (C1 and C2). You can work independently and with existing lesson materials, but you also have ideas to make the teaching materials and activities better and more appealing to the target group.
- You have excellent didactic skills and know how to integrate useful EdTech (including LLM tools) into your education. You can activate students, also when they may not be intrinsically motivated.
- You can organize and plan well, deliver accurate work, are a reliable team member and have good interpersonal and communicative skills. You understand that teaching inherently comes with flexibility and occasional peak loads.
- It goes without saying that you have the IT skills to quickly master applications such as MS Teams, the Canvas LMS, and various Tilburg University administrative tools.
- You currently reside in the Netherlands/within commuting distance of Tilburg.

- A position based on max. 0.6 fte (24 hours per week). Preferable workdays include Thursday and Friday.
- A salary of minimum € 3,546.- and maximum € 5,538.- gross per month for full-time employment, based on UFO profile Skills Teacher and salary scale 10. Tilburg University uses a neutral remuneration system based on relevant work experience.
- This is a vacancy for an on-call worker in accordance with article 2.3 paragraph 6 sub e CLA DU. You will be given a temporary contract until end of January 2027.
- Vacation pay of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3%.
- A pension with ABP; the largest Dutch pension fund.
