We are currently looking to recruit a Senior Property Risk Engineer to join our European Operations (EO) team based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. This is your opportunity to develop your career in an exciting international environment where anything is possible.
As a Senior Property Risk Engineer for QBE, you will develop and deliver Risk Solutions services for QBE's European business, with a primary focus on the Netherlands and wider Benelux region.
You will be responsible for providing specialist property risk engineering support that assists effective underwriting decisions and supports customers in understanding and managing their risks. Through your technical expertise, you will help minimise loss frequency and severity, improve overall risk quality, and contribute to profitable growth across our Property portfolio.
You will provide input and support to the Head of Risk Solutions in implementing the overall strategy of the European Risk Solutions practice, products and services.
- Conduct complex property risk engineering site assessments, producing detailed technical reports and recommendations to identify exposures and deliver best-practice loss prevention solutions.
- Evaluate fire, explosion, natural catastrophe and business interruption exposures across a variety of industries and occupancies.
- Perform desktop risk assessments and provide technical advice based on broker submissions, third-party engineering reports and customer documentation.
- Deliver risk engineering services for key and multinational accounts by assessing existing risk management and loss prevention controls and supporting the implementation of industry best practices.
- Support underwriting teams with risk selection, account reviews and technical referrals.
- Contribute to thought leadership through property risk management publications, presentations and training focused on current and emerging risks.
- Coordinate risk engineering activities with internal colleagues and external third-party risk engineering providers.
- Demonstrate awareness and understanding of Risk Solutions strategy, business plans and objectives.
- Manage a portfolio of key customer accounts, developing customer-specific risk management strategies and delivering risk management services.
- Support the delivery of operational plans and risk management services within agreed service levels.
- Contribute to technology solutions and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the Risk Solutions offering.
- Plan and manage travel effectively to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of risk engineering services.
- Comply with and support the development and maintenance of risk management policies, procedures, standards and guidelines.
- Promote and support technical documents, procedures, guidelines and publications with underwriters and customers.
- Perform quality control reviews to ensure service quality and compliance with technical and reporting requirements.
- Identify and implement improvements to risk engineering services and processes to ensure efficiency and alignment with underwriting guidelines and best-practice risk management.
- Act as a subject matter expert in business improvement initiatives, projects, committees and working groups.
- Support portfolio growth by delivering tailored property risk management solutions in collaboration with Distribution, Product and broker partners.
- Promote the Risk Solutions brand internally and externally, enhancing market awareness of QBE's risk management capabilities.
- Provide customers, brokers, external providers and employees with insights into emerging risks and mitigation strategies through publications, presentations and training.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with underwriters, brokers and customers to deliver value and support future service provision.
- Promote and utilise the risk management resource library.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant regulations, standards and industry codes to support technical guideline development.
- Support the creation of risk management publications, training, presentations and technical materials.
- Contribute to the development of technical risk management capabilities across Underwriting, Product and outsourced providers.
- Provide technical risk management advice and support to stakeholders.
- Mentor, train and support internal risk engineers, underwriters and external providers to strengthen technical skills and risk engineering capabilities.

- Native-level Dutch and fluent English language skills are essential, with excellent written and verbal communication abilities in both languages.
- Ability to deliver clear, concise and high-quality technical risk engineering reports to a variety of audiences.
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with customers, brokers, underwriters and internal stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, influencing, negotiation and presentation skills at all levels of the organisation.
- Demonstrated project management and coordination skills, including leading complex risk engineering programmes for large and demanding accounts.
- Deep technical knowledge of property risk management, fire protection, loss prevention, business continuity planning and risk mitigation strategies.
- Strong analytical capability to interpret underwriting, exposure and risk data to support informed and proactive risk management decisions.
- Commercial mindset combined with a strong customer focus and consultative approach.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience providing property risk engineering services within the insurance industry or a related risk consulting environment.
- Comprehensive understanding of insurance products and processes, including underwriting, pricing, claims and risk selection.
- Strong knowledge of property risks including fire protection systems, natural catastrophe exposures, business interruption risks and loss prevention methodologies.
- Solid understanding of exposure drivers, claims trends, hazards, controls and applicable regulations, standards and industry codes.
- Experience supporting and leading key accounts, with a track record of successfully implementing risk improvement initiatives.
- Relevant tertiary qualification, such as an Engineering degree or equivalent technical discipline.
- Fire Protection Engineering, Risk Management or Health & Safety qualifications would be advantageous.
