Additive Industries is looking for an AM Materials Laboratory Technician with a metallurgical background to join the Process and Application Development (P&AD) team, in our Eindhoven HQ. In this multidisciplinary team, your challenge will be supporting the development of LPBF process parameters for a range of materials and applications on our industry leading LPBF platforms.
With the support of P&AD team members, you will be exposed to the entire process chain of parameter development – from requirements through to testing and analysis in our state-of-the-art Materials Lab. Understanding the importance of measurable data, and drawing concise conclusions from this, you will provide key feedback from process development and quality acceptance builds via the testing & reporting of these specimens.
You will be responsible for testing and assessing the quality of printed test coupons. Following standard test procedures, you will carefully log, save and report the data. You will also maintain material databases, job reports and laboratory documentation.
In addition, you will be responsible for printing builds on our systems, ensuring the machine is prepared and post-build activities are completed in accordance with standard procedures
Using your excellent analytical and practical skills, you are expected to develop a broad understanding of material behaviour and process development, using this knowledge to contribute to different activities within the P&AD team. Examples of these activities include the development of laboratory documentation, performing mechanical and metallurgical tests, data management and statistical analysis, cleaning and calibration of laboratory equipment, ordering laboratory supplies and reporting to the P&AD team.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Operating the LPBF metal AM systems to print samples and products.
- Operating laboratory equipment in accordance with test standards
- Understanding laboratory equipment and supporting its calibration, cleaning and maintenance
- Analysing, reporting and presenting test results using statistical methods
- Creation and maintenance of material databases to track process capability
Knowledge and experience
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Material Science or Chemistry preferred, or proven experience in other relevant technical backgrounds
Experience/skills:
- Prior experience in an engineering laboratory, applying operational procedures in accordance with safe working practices
- Familiarity with standards for material testing
- Knowledge of statistical tools (Excel and/or Minitab)
- Experience in managing and organising technical engineering data for example maintaining material databases
- Experienced with writing and reporting test results
- Prior experience with metal laser powder bed fusion is a plus
Personality characteristics
This role will appeal to an eager, proactive and hands on individual. Passionate about metal AM, particularly the process development aspects of LPBF, you will thrive in the execution of task-based activities.
