Department: Platform & Infrastructure
Sensys Gatso Group is a global leader in traffic enforcement technology, driven by the Swedish "Vision Zero" mission—eliminating traffic fatalities and serious injuries by changing driver behavior and improving road safety worldwide.
We are seeking a motivated Medior Cloud Engineer / SRE to join our world-class software and cloud architecture hub in Amsterdam. In this role, you will bridge the gap between development and operations, collaborating closely with our two application teams while serving as an integral member of the Platform team.
This role requires an engineer who is confident managing production systems, comfortable navigating loosely defined objectives, and capable of operating independently. You will balance a dual-track focus: maintaining the operational integrity of our legacy systems while actively driving their migration and modernization into Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Within our team, we deeply value an environment of mutual respect, active mentorship, and collaborative growth.
-
Global Architecture & Service Mesh Management: Oversee and scale our cloud infrastructure, leveraging hands-on expertise with Istio (or similar service meshes) to manage a complex ecosystem of 100+ microservices.
-
Advanced Observability & Tracing: Drive innovation in our monitoring frameworks by implementing and maintaining robust tracing and metrics pipelines using Grafana Alloy, Mimir, and OpenTelemetry / Jaeger.
-
Cloud Modernization & Migration: Maintain the stability of existing systems while actively supporting their architectural migration and replacement within GCP.
-
Global Kubernetes Deployment: Coordinate the rollout, maintenance, and optimization of our Kubernetes platform across diverse cloud environments and bare-metal systems worldwide.
-
Autonomous Execution: Own infrastructure initiatives end-to-end, demonstrating the ability to translate ambiguous or high-level objectives into reliable, production-ready engineering solutions.
-
Collaborative Mentorship: Actively participate in a respectful team culture, engaging productively with senior mentors and peers to elevate our collective engineering standards.
-
Purpose-Driven Work: An opportunity to develop technology that directly contributes to safer cities and reduces traffic fatalities globally.
-
Empowering Environment: A culture that values technical maturity, autonomy, and the pursuit of cutting-edge software architecture over generic speed.
-
Competitive Compensation: A market-aligned salary that reflects your cloud engineering expertise and contributions.
-
Performance-Driven Rewards: An attractive bonus structure designed to recognize dedication and operational milestones.
-
Work-Life Balance: 25 days of annual leave alongside a flexible, hybrid work model (combining remote work with collaboration at our vibrant Amsterdam office, and occasional alignment projects with our hardware innovation hub in Haarlem).
-
International Culture: A diverse, multinational workplace spanning subsidiaries in Australia, Germany, Sweden, the US, Latin America, and the UAE.
Sensys Gatso Group is the leading global provider of system solutions for traffic safety. Our shares are listed on the NASDAQ OMX Stockholm.
Our software ecosystem in Amsterdam centers around three core proprietary products:
-
Flux: The edge-device software and hardware layer deployed at the roadside.
-
Puls: The high-throughput data backend where roadside system data is collected, analyzed, and enriched (primarily written in Go).
-
Xilium: Our enterprise frontend platform where violation processing is managed (primarily written in Java).
All of our products utilize modern architecture, leveraging containerization with Docker and orchestration via Kubernetes to deliver scalable safety solutions worldwide.
We are looking for an autonomous, technically mature Medior Cloud Engineer / SRE who is confident working on production systems and navigating ambiguous, loosely defined objectives. To thrive in this role within our Amsterdam software hub, you should possess the following qualifications:
-
Autonomy & Team Spirit: Ability to operate independently with minimal guidance, combined with a deeply respectful approach toward mentors and peers.
-
Service Mesh Mastery: Hands-on knowledge of Istio (or a similar service mesh), ideally with experience managing an ecosystem of 100+ microservices.
-
Advanced Observability: Well-versed in Grafana Alloy and Mimir, with strong proficiency in distributed tracing using OpenTelemetry or Jaeger.
-
Dual-Track Systems Management: Willingness to maintain existing legacy systems while actively supporting their migration or replacement in modern cloud environments like GCP.
-
Cloud & Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Proven professional experience managing public cloud environments utilizing Terraform.
-
Containerization & CI/CD: Hands-on experience deploying, maintaining, and scaling Kubernetes clusters via GitLab CI/CD and ArgoCD.
-
Technical Foundations: Solid background in Linux/Unix administration, core networking, and Bash scripting. Familiarity with Go or Java is a distinct advantage.
-
Location & Flexibility: Professional proficiency in English, based in the Netherlands, with the ability to adhere to our hybrid model (minimum 2 days per week in our Amsterdam office).
