Project Lead Naval Architecture

Vuyk Engineering Rotterdam is currently looking for a Project Lead Naval Architecture, who can manage complex designs from the first client meeting till the final stage of engineering. In the commercial phase, you’re already involved in providing technical input regarding concepts and estimations for the final proposal. Once the project is rewarded, you’ll select your team in consideration with the department manager(s) and determine detailed planning and budgets.
During the engineering, you’ll manage your team of design, structural, marine systems and 3D/2D engineers where the focus will be engineering work related to vessel lay-outs, stability, weight- and hydrodynamical calculations to optimize hull-and ship structures taking integration with offshore equipment, marine systems and workability into account.
The types of new designs and conversions you’ll work on show a big variety, where you can think of custom-made designs for the offshore, renewable, dredging & mining and salvage and decommissioning markets. All your design and engineering work will be under class approval of organizations like DNV, Bureau Veritas or Lloyds.
You’ll be responsible for coordination and communication with these organizations and will discuss progress with the department manager and your clients.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical input for the commercial team to translate client requests into concepts, estimations and proposals
- Lead a multidiscipline team of engineers and designers during the project
- Keep track of planning, budgets and engineering progress and discuss progression with clients and the department manager
- Responsible for engineering related to vessel lay-outs, stability, weight- and hydrodynamical calculations
- Communication with class approval organizations like DNV, Bureau Veritas or Lloyds.
What we ask:
- A Msc degree in Naval Architecture, Maritime Engineering or comparable
- 10+ years’ of experience in engineering in the maritime industry
- Experience with different stages of engineering like concept- and basic design, FEA analyses and 3D/2D modelling
- Well known with class approval authorities and rules & regulations
- Pro active and good writing and communication skills in both English and Dutch
