Role Overview
As a Payments Business Development Manager supporting European markets at Trip.com, you will be part of Fintech Business Unit (MBU) and play a critical role in business development and partnership management, building a cost-effective and reliable payment infrastructure that reduces friction, increases revenue capture and, enables global business growth for Trip.com Group, thus ensuring compliance with regional regulations. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop and implement payment strategies aligning with our European business objectives. The scope of the role includes customer payments (B2C).
As Trip.com and Triplink expand their regional offering, this position can also support new businesses and Fintech Products in the future.
In this Role, you’ll get to
- Regional PSP/Acquirer Partner Management:
- Evaluate, negotiate with, and onboard new payment service providers (PSPs), gateways, and acquiring banks to improve rates, coverage, or functionality.
- Portfolio Optimisation: Continuously review the existing portfolio of payment partners to consolidate, replace, or add providers based on cost, performance (authorization rates), and regional needs.
- Manage escalations, drive issue resolution.
- Conduct Business Reviews with payment partners.
- Cost Optimisation: Own the Payment Cost KPI. Actively search for opportunities to decrease the cost base and implement them.Identify, evaluate, and develop commercial payment opportunities, including local payment methods, card schemes, wallets, and alternative payment providers.
- Checkout & Conversion Rate Optimisation: Work closely with Product, Regional and Global teams to develop and implement strategies to increase payment conversion.
- Localised Payment Methods: Research and integrate locally preferred payment methods.
- UX Improvement: Propose improvements in front-end that are tailored to the relevant audience in Europe region.
- Market Analysis: Conduct research studies for the relevant markets, analysing local methods, regulations, and partnership requirements. Identify trends and opportunities and implement best practices.
- Conduct Regular Competitor Benchmark to identify payment methods and feature gaps.
- Product Support: work with different BUs to identify specific needs from a payment perspective per product/business line.
- Lead exploration of key payment innovations in the region.
- Performance Tracking: Monitor key metrics (i.e. payment cost, conversion, 3DS,, customer complaints) and use insights to drive partner negotiations and technical improvements. Generate and present reports to management and key stakeholders.
- Payment Marketing Promotions and Campaigns. Actively look for opportunities to collaborate with local and regional payment methods and card schemes, partner with marketing teams to promote new payment methods, and co-create campaigns or incentives to drive higher traffic and conversion.
- Regulatory Compliance: Serve as the regional subject matter expert for PSD2/SCA and other local financial regulations. Ensure along with Product team that all payment flows in Europe are fully compliant and optimized. Collaborate with compliance teams to conduct regular audits and risk assessments.
- Support the Trip.com group and Payment Director Europe in designing and executing a payment strategy catered to the EU and relevant markets.
- Act as Subject Matter Expert in payments: Stay up to date with the latest Payment, Fraud & Chargeback trends in travel.
- Mentor and train junior payment staff and specialists.
- Support in any other activity that can drive successfully the goals of the department
What you'll Need to Succeed
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; MBA preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in payments, fintech, or financial services, with a strong emphasis on the European market.
- Proven experience working with European payment systems and regulations.
- Strong knowledge of online B2C payments
- Strong in analytical thinking, complex project management and budget management.
- Passion for business, technology innovation, with high energy and intelligence
- Strong presentation, interpersonal, communication and negotiation abilities
- An independent individual, yet a reliable team player
- Strong analytical skills with a data-driven mindset focused on user experience and conversion.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in additional European languages is a plus.
