Senior Embedded Software Engineer
About Binfinity
Binfinity develops and maintains technical products where embedded software, electronics, reliability, and practical engineering come together. We are a small, close-knit team, which means your work has direct impact on the product, our customers, and the future technical direction of the company. You will work closely with people across the organization and will not be just one engineer among many.
Our vision is clear: within 7 years, together with municipalities and waste collectors, we want to achieve at least 40% less residual waste. Through user-friendly solutions and transparent data, we make circular progress visible, measurable, and achievable. Our products are an important part of that mission. They help municipalities, waste collectors, and users make better decisions and reduce residual waste. We also aim to reflect the same circular principles in the way we design our own products: keeping them simple, reliable, maintainable, and suitable for refurbishment where possible.
The role
As Senior Embedded Software Engineer, you will work on the design, development, testing, and maintenance of embedded software used in our products. You will be involved in both new development and improvements to existing systems.
This is a hands-on senior engineering role with a high degree of freedom and responsibility. You will not have formal line-management responsibility, but you will be expected to work independently, make sound technical recommendations, and help us improve the structure, reliability, and maintainability of our embedded software environment.
Because we are a small company, you will have room to shape how embedded software is developed, documented, tested, and improved. You will work closely with the lead full stack engineer, hardware engineer, engineering manager, and the wider team, with short communication lines and direct involvement in technical decisions. This role is a good fit for someone who combines strong embedded software fundamentals with curiosity about better ways of working, including automation and responsible use of AI-assisted engineering tools.
What you will do
You will work on the embedded software that runs inside our products, close to the hardware and close to the real-world situations in which those products are used. Your work will involve developing and maintaining firmware, debugging product issues, working with microcontrollers, sensors and communication interfaces, and improving the reliability of systems used by municipalities, waste collectors, and end users. You will be involved in both new development and improvements to existing products. Some days you may be writing firmware or reviewing technical choices; other days you may be investigating a field issue, validating a release, or improving how the codebase is tested and documented. Because our products combine software, electronics, mechanics, and practical use in the field, this role suits someone who enjoys understanding the full system, not just writing code in isolation.
What we are looking for
- Strong experience with embedded software development in C and/or C++.
- Experience with microcontrollers and low-level hardware interfaces.
- Ability to independently debug embedded systems using tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, debuggers, or similar.
- Understanding of communication protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet, BLE, or similar.
- Ability to take ownership of an existing codebase and improve it pragmatically.
- A structured way of working, with attention to reliability, documentation, testing, and maintainability.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make pragmatic engineering decisions.
- Clear communication with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Ability to work independently while staying aligned with team priorities.
- Curiosity about automation, AI-assisted development tools, and modern engineering workflows.
- Critical thinking when using tools or generated output, especially where reliability, security, or product quality are involved.
Nice to have
- Experience with Zephyr RTOS, including development of Zephyr-based applications.
- Experience developing, adapting, or maintaining Zephyr drivers.
- Experience with secure firmware, access control, IoT, or connected devices.
- Experience with version control, CI/CD, automated testing, or hardware-in-the-loop testing.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve software quality, documentation, testing, debugging, or development speed.
- Experience working as the main embedded software engineer in a product company.
- Experience coordinating with external developers, suppliers, or technical partners.
- Knowledge of electronics design or PCB-level troubleshooting.
What we offer
- A salary between €5500 - €6500 gross per month, based on 40 hours, depending on experience.
- Hybrid working: 50 percent from home and 50 percent at the office.
- Several experimentation days per year to explore new ideas, tools, prototypes, or improvements.
- A yearly team outing to spend some time together outside day-to-day work.
- A senior engineering role with real ownership and visible impact.
- Freedom to shape technical solutions and improve how embedded software is developed.
- Work on physical products where embedded software, electronics, and reliability come together.
- A small, practical engineering team where initiative, clarity, and ownership are valued.
How to apply
Send your CV and a short motivation to [email protected].
We are especially interested in hearing about embedded systems or firmware projects you have worked on, what your role was, and what technical challenges you solved. If you have examples of how you improved documentation, testing, automation, maintainability, or used AI-assisted tools in your engineering work, we would be interested to hear about those as well.
