ZEFIRA is a European deep-tech company on a mission to transform CO₂ into fuels. We combine advanced membranes and plasma technologies to build the next generation of compact, efficient, and modular systems for CO₂ valorisation.
By merging these technologies, ZEFIRA redefines what is possible: turning industrial emissions and biogenic residues into valuable fuels and chemicals, reducing energy intensity compared to conventional routes.
Our solutions target the hardest-to-abate sectors e.g shipping, aviation, and heavy industry, where scalable, sustainable fuels are urgently needed. With roots in European research excellence and strong industrial partnerships, ZEFIRA is advancing technologies that will accelerate the circular carbon economy.
We are now looking for a Pilot Systems Electrical & Automation Integration Engineer to support the development, assembly, commissioning, and operation of our experimental and pilot-scale systems. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on real hardware.
What you will do
You will work directly on ZEFIRA’s pilot systems and experimental installations, including:
- Electrical integration and wiring of pilot and laboratory installations
- Assembly of electrical cabinets, sensors, actuators, relays, and instrumentation
- PLC programming and implementation of control logic for experimental systems
- Integration of instruments such as pressure transmitters, thermocouples, flow meters, gas analysers, valves, and mass flow controllers
- Integration of industrial power supplies, instrumentation, and advanced process equipment into pilot-scale systems
- Implementation of startup/shutdown sequences, alarms, interlocks, and basic PID control loops
- Troubleshooting electrical and control issues during commissioning and operation
- Support commissioning and troubleshooting of advanced reactor and process systems
- Testing and validation of electrical assemblies and control systems
- Support integration of ZEFIRA systems with industrial supervision systems from site owners (e.g. communication with external SCADA/DCS environments)
- Preparation of basic technical documentation such as wiring diagrams, I/O lists, and electrical schematics
- Support pilot installation, startup, and commissioning activities at partner or industrial sites when required
You will work closely with process engineers, researchers, and the CTO to help transform laboratory concepts into reliable pilot installations.
What we are looking for
- Bachelor or Master degree, or equivalent practical experience in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Automation, Electrotechnology, or related field
- Practical experience with PLC systems Hands-on experience with electrical wiring, instrumentation, and industrial hardware integration
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams Experience troubleshooting electrical or automation systems
- Basic knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus TCP/IP, Profinet, or OPC UA is a plus
- Practical and solution-oriented mindset
- Comfortable working directly on experimental systems and evolving prototypes Safety-conscious and structured working approach
- Good command of English Experience in pilot plants, machine building, skid integration, process equipment, gas systems, or industrial automation is considered a strong plus.
