In Electrification Business – Smart Power Division, we are looking for a technically deep Global Application Engineer who brings advanced technical knowledge combined with a customer and application-driven mindset. You thrive at the intersection of emerging technology feasibility and real-world commercial applications, translating breakthrough concepts into viable business opportunities for Smart Power. You will support the development and drive the implementation of the strategic technology roadmapping process for emerging applications and lead the architecture design and validation of pilot projects in microgrids and datacenter power systems.
You will bridge the gap between R&D innovation and market reality, working in our 'Emerging Technologies, Applications and Segments' innovation team within the agile unit Innovation and Common Modules. In this role, you will partner with Principal R&D Engineer and Technology Advisor peers, with responsibilities shifted based on the team’s knowledge and each member’s experience. If you're someone with solid technical skills who is skilled at validating emerging technologies in customer contexts and turning complex technical concepts into validated technical solutions ready for further developments, this role is for you.
Your responsibilities:

Technology roadmaps and TRM platform management: Develop and maintain technology roadmaps across emerging application areas, ensuring alignment with division strategy and stakeholder approvals, while managing the Technology Roadmapping (TRM) platform, ensuring data accuracy, timely updates, stake-holder access management, and compliance with governance and security requirements.
-
Research project coordination and technology validation: Coordinate research projects from concept through technology validation, performing technical gate assessments, feasibility studies, and proof-of-concept definitions up to TRL2.
-
System architecture and pilot projects: Design electrical system architectures for both AC and DC applications including single line diagrams, reference architectures, and technical frameworks for emerging applications (e.g. datacenters and microgrids), coordinating pilot projects from design through stakeholder validation.
-
Competitive benchmarking and portfolio assessment: Conduct technology benchmarking and competitive technical analysis, identifying capability gaps, opportunities and evaluating scalability and applicability to Smart Power's portfolio.
-
Partner ecosystem development: Build strategic partnerships with customers, technology providers, and research organizations to pilot innovative applications and validate both technical feasibility and market viability.
-
Technical workshops and innovation validation: Design and facilitate technical workshops with internal teams, customers, and partners to explore, validate, and mature emerging technology concepts and innovation hypotheses.
-
Technical documentation and strategic communication: Produce technical documentation and innovation briefs, translating research outcomes into clear strategic recommendations for stakeholders and leadership while collaborating closely with R&D and Technology Advisor teams.
Your background:
-
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Electrical; PhD is a plus.
-
5+ years of experience in the electrical field in power systems R&D, DC/AC power distribution, microgrids, or datacenter power infrastructure, with proven background in technology feasibility studies, single line drawings, proof-of-concept development, and research project coordination.
