Aquablu's products run Android in more places than your pocket. Our dispensing systems ship with Android-powered on-device software that hundreds of thousands of people touch every day, and our mobile apps put hydration in users' hands. As our Android Engineer, you work across that whole surface.
Your main arena is on-device: the software running on the hardware itself, where Android meets the physical world. Screens people tap on a machine, software that talks to firmware, updates that roll out to hundreds of deployed systems in the field. Alongside that, you contribute to our mobile development where the products need it. Few Android roles give you this range.
This is a hands-on engineering role in a small, fast team. You own well-scoped features end to end and deliver them reliably, working closely with our senior Android engineer who reviews the high-stakes work and helps you grow into the harder problems. You build with AI agents as your default collaborator, you work cross-functionally with hardware, firmware, and product, and you ship software that runs on real machines in real locations.
This role reports into our Head of Digital Product, and is part of Aquablu's Software & Intelligence Engineering team.
-
On-device Android software: Features on the user-facing software running on our dispensing systems — UI, device behaviour, and the integration layer where software meets hardware. You own your features end to end.
-
Fleet-ready releases: Contribute to releases that update reliably across hundreds of deployed devices in the field, where a broken release means a technician visit. The riskiest releases get a second pair of senior eyes — and you learn what makes them safe.
-
Hardware & firmware integration: Work with embedded and firmware engineers to make on-device behaviour seamless — serial communication, device state, real-world edge cases.
-
Mobile contribution: Support Android development on our consumer app where the roadmap needs it.
-
AI-native development: Build with AI agents every day and keep pushing what that lets you ship.
-
Solid Android engineering experience: 3-5 years building and shipping Android software in Kotlin. You know the platform well beyond tutorials.
-
Curiosity for Android outside the phone: on-device, kiosk, embedded-adjacent, or AOSP experience is a strong plus — genuine interest and solid fundamentals get you there too.
-
You handle well-scoped work independently: you plan it, communicate progress and risks, and deliver end to end — and you know when to pull in a senior for the high-risk calls.
-
AI-native coding is how you work. You build with AI agents daily, you have a sharp setup, and your output shows it. If your last six months of work doesn't look meaningfully different because of AI, this isn't your role.
You'll be right at the center of everything, with clear responsibilities and the freedom to own them. You'll work closely with our Service Engineers, logistics partners, and Client Support team in an informal, direct, and collaborative environment. And best of all? No two days are the same.
