As Director of Engineering, you are the accountable owner of the products and services chartered to our Netherlands Engineering Hub, reporting to the Vice President of Engineering. You will provide decisive leadership, establish clear operating standards, and ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality, enterprise-grade software aligned with Redwood’s strategic priorities.
This role carries full responsibility for execution, technical direction, delivery predictability, and team performance within the Netherlands hub. You will build and sustain a culture where commitments are met, outcomes are owned, and excellence is the baseline.
You are not only a people leader — you are the operational authority for the hub’s output, health, and performance.
Success in this role requires a relentless focus on results, measurable impact, and continuous improvement. You will set a high bar for accountability and ensure that teams deliver on their commitments with discipline, transparency, and urgency.
At Redwood, our Software Development Lifecycle is AI-embedded and AI-first. You will be responsible for evangelizing and operationalizing AI across the entire development process — from ideation and architecture through coding, testing, release, diagnostics, and continuous improvement. AI adoption is not optional; it is a leadership mandate.
Hub Leadership
- Own the technical and operational outcomes of the Netherlands Engineering Hub.
- Establish clear accountability for roadmap delivery, quality, reliability, and performance.

- Drive a culture where teams “Own the Outcome” and operate with autonomy, urgency, and clarity.
Results-Driven Execution
- Translate strategic product objectives into executable roadmaps with clear milestones and ownership.
- Hold teams accountable for sprint commitments, release targets, and quality standards.
- Proactively identify delivery risks and implement structured recovery (“path-to-green”) plans.
- Drive continuous improvement in velocity, predictability, and operational excellence.
- Instill disciplined planning, estimation, and follow-through across all teams.
Foster a Culture of Accountability & Continuous Learning
- Build a high-performance engineering culture rooted in ownership, transparency, and measurable impact.

- Promote post-mortem rigor, root cause analysis, and data-driven retrospectives.
- Develop continuous learning in architecture, cloud-native practices, and AI-enabled engineering through dedicated learning investments.
- Develop future engineering leaders within the hub through coaching, mentorship, and clear performance expectations.
AI-Driven Software Development Leadership
- Champion and operationalize Redwood’s AI-Driven SDLC across all teams.
- Ensure AI tools are deeply integrated into the full SDLC, from ideation to design to development and delivery
- Establish clear standards for responsible AI usage, validation, and quality control.
- Measure AI-driven productivity gains and ensure AI increases throughput without sacrificing quality.
Technical & Architectural Authority
- Provide architectural oversight and decision-making authority for hub-owned services.
- Ensure systems meet Redwood standards for scalability, security, reliability, and observability.
- Partner closely with Principal Engineers and Architecture leadership to align on long-term technical strategy.
- Make decisive technical trade-offs to protect delivery timelines and platform integrity.
Organizational Scaling & Talent Leadership
- Hire and retain high-caliber engineers with strong AI fluency and systems thinking.
- Set a high bar for technical rigor, ownership, and execution.
- Align team structure and capacity planning with product growth objectives.
- Drive succession planning and leadership development within the hub.
YOUR EXPERIENCE
- 8–12+ years of progressive software engineering experience.
- 3–5+ years leading engineering teams with full delivery accountability.
- Demonstrated ownership of roadmap execution and delivery outcomes.
- Proven track record of delivering enterprise SaaS products on time and at high quality.
- Experience building high-performance, accountability-driven engineering cultures.
- Deep understanding of Agile execution with measurable delivery metrics.

- Demonstrated experience leveraging AI tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Cursor) across the SDLC.
- Ability to operate with authority, influence cross-functionally, and make decisive trade-offs.
- Strong bias for action and measurable results.
