At Nearfield Instruments we're looking for a PLC Software Engineer to join our team.

Founded in 2016, we bring together the most creative minds (approx. 320 employees) in science and technology and develop a one-of-a-kind, revolutionary high throughput Scanning Probe Microscopy system.
As PLC Software Engineer you develop, test, integrate and qualify the entire software stack of our machine. From low level embedded control to high level user interface and communication with the factory. You will help in designing, developing and maintaining functionality of the PLC layer. Our PLC stack is based on an EtherCat network controlled by a Beckhoff master PLC.
Besides this you will be responsible for, but not limited to:

Design, configure, program, test, implement and / or manage PLC control systems and applications;

Drafting, reviewing and / or improving technical and functional documentation;

Identifying, solving and reporting problems in the field of control software;

Participate in integration of various subsystems of the machine.

You have the ability to quickly acquire technical knowledge from documentation and on-the-job training and be capable of thoroughly investigating technical issues;

High appreciation from the organization for your expertise;

You like to work with Beckhoff PLC (Soft and Safety), TwinCat 3 and mechatronic systems.
Within our Design & Engineering department this role is part of the Software Group. This SW Group consists of 5 teams (Architectural, Machine Control, Device Control, Data Science, Integration & Support).
Your focus will be the Device Control where you help developing control algorithms and support in PLC choices.

3+ years’ PLC Software development, OOP Design/Architecture, Safety Applications, SW Testing, SW Integration;

Design/Platforms: OOP Design, Codesys, Beckhoff; TwinCAT

Industrial Communication protocols such as EtherCAT, CanOpen, RS232/RS485 Serial Comm, TCP/IP, OPC-UA;

Coding: Structured Text, Instruction List (advantage: LD, SFC, FBD);

Source Control and Configuration: Git, CI/CD.
