As a Cybersecurity Applications Engineer based in Amsterdam, you will be responsible for the development, testing, and validation of cybersecurity features for Tesla Energy projects across the EMEA region. You will work with global cross-functional teams spanning SCADA, Network Operations, SW/HW development, Project Engineering, and Sales Engineering to deliver robust, compliant cybersecurity solutions. We’re looking for a flexible, collaborative engineer with a passion for sustainable energy and the ability to contribute to diverse technical challenges.
What You'll Do

Conduct security assessments against regional regulations and industry standards, including the NIS 2 Directive, EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), and IEC 62443.
- Provide sales engineering support by evaluating cybersecurity requirements during contracting and negotiation phases and responding to customer RFIs and RFQs for European projects.
- Develop and deploy monitoring tools and dashboards to enhance cybersecurity features and service efficiency for complex utility-scale battery projects.
- Provide technical support both internally and externally with customers throughout the sales and deployment of Tesla products into new and complex applications across the region.
- Run day-to-day cybersecurity operations for Tesla Energy deployments across Europe, including vulnerability management, patch coordination, hardening testing, and identity and access management in line with customer contractual requirements.
- Assist with scheduled security activities including tabletop exercises, patch management cycles, incident response exercises, and vulnerability remediation plans.
What You'll Bring

BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related engineering discipline with 3+ years of work experience; or equivalent experience and evidence of exceptional ability.
- Strong knowledge of cybersecurity for industrial control systems. Familiar with European and international energy industry standards such as the NIS 2 Directive, EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), IEC 62443 (including 2-1, 3-2, and 4-2), and ISO 27001.
- Experience with security operations including patch management, vulnerability assessments, threat modelling, and risk assessments for critical infrastructure.
- Familiar with Operational Technology energy systems including devices such as meters, inverters, SCADA controllers, and network systems, with hands-on experience in communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850, MQTT, and OPC UA.
- Experience with implementing industry-standard cybersecurity requirements: DMZ, jump/proxy servers, firewall rules, network segmentation, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
- Skilled with automation and familiarity with programming languages such as Python, C, C++, Rust, Go, or similar.
Nice to have

Certified security professional credentials (e.g., CISSP, GICSP, GRID, CISM, CASP+, GIAC, CAP, or equivalent).

Experience working with European energy customers (e.g., utilities, IPPs) and familiarity with regional contractual cybersecurity obligations.

Experience with cybersecurity vulnerability scanning tools and penetration testing.

Networking-related certifications (CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent).

Willingness to travel within Europe and internationally between Tesla facilities, customer sites, and certification laboratories.
