Damen Shiprepair Curaçao (DSCu) is a growing company in the Caribbean owned by the Damen Shipyards Group. We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced individual to join our team as a Cost Controller.
THE ROLE
As a Cost Controller in a shipyard, your primary responsibility is to monitor and control the project costs throughout the ship repair process. This function plays a crucial role in the processing and handling data related to budgeting, invoicing, and contract variations of various types of vessels.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Collaborate with project managers and engineers to review cost estimates and proposals.
- Review and analyze vendor contracts and invoices.
- Monitor and control project costs to ensure adherence to budget and cost estimates.
- Analyze actual project expenses against budgeted amounts and identify variances
- Prepare variation order requests.
- Track and report on project progress and cost performance.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and give recommendations for improving efficiency.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with cost control procedures.
- Prepare and present cost analysis reports and forecasts for Project Managers, Management Team (e.g. Operations Manager) and Finance department.
- Ensure the complete financial closing of projects within our project management software IFS after project completion.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor degree in Finance, Accounting, Naval Architecture, and/or Mechanical Engineering.
- At least two (2) years of relevant experience with controlling projects in a technical production environment and thorough knowledge of ship repair and cost calculations.
- Proficient in spoken and written English; knowledge of Dutch, Spanish, and Papiamentu is an advantage.
- Substantive knowledge of and experience with ERP systems, Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office, in particular Word and Excel.
- Fit and readiness to visit the ongoing works on a daily basis for accurate assessment of the process and related costs.
