During this internship, you will develop an automated method to identify critical N-1 grid conditions in the medium-voltage network. Your solution will help improve capacity analyses and support more reliable grid operation. You will combine network topology and power-flow data to create a fast, scalable, and explainable approach for System Operations. We build the energy grid of the future for everyone, with everyone. As an Intern Tactical Capacity Management – System Operations, you contribute to this mission. You will:
- Learn, grow, and gain valuable experience in a professional working environment.
- Analyse the medium-voltage network and use power-flow data.
- Develop an algorithm to identify the most critical N-1 grid configuration automatically.
- Validate results with experts and existing network scenarios.
- Integrate mid-term forecasts into the proposed methodology.
- Present findings and recommendations to the team.

The Tactical Capacity Management (TCM) team is part of System Operations (SO). Our team consists of 16 people: 7 developers, 7 specialists, 1 Scrum Master, and 1 Team Leader. We are a large international team with members from diverse backgrounds, varying levels of experience, and a wide range of interests. We also have a strong collaborative orientation, with several team members with scientific backgrounds and extensive use of advanced tools for data analysis, modelling, and forecasting. The team works together in the office on Thursdays.

You also bring:
- You are currently graduating in a Master’s programme in Power System Engineering or Computer Science and are looking for a graduation internship.
- Intermediate Python programming skills for data analysis and algorithm development.
- Knowledge of power system fundamentals and energy networks.
- For this internship, it is required that you are living in the Netherlands and have a good command of the English language.
Everything arranged for you
That is why you will receive:
- A monthly internship allowance of €550, based on a 40-hour workweek.
- A laptop and, if required for your internship assignment, a mobile phone.
- If you are not eligible for a student public transport pass (anymore), you will receive a travel allowance.
- The opportunity to work on innovative grid-analysis methods and advanced power system challenges.
