Within Yanmar Europe, the Finance and Accounting team plays a key role in ensuring accurate financial processing, strong internal controls, and reliable reporting. The Accounts Payable function directly supports efficient cash management, regulatory compliance, and strong supplier relationships across the organisation.
What are you going to do?
As our Customs & Export Control Specialist, you are responsible for ensuring full compliance with customs regulations, export control legislation, and international trade requirements across Yanmar Europe. You support the organisation by managing customs operations, maintaining export control processes, and minimising regulatory, financial, and reputational risks. Working closely with Finance, Supply Chain, Logistics, Sales, and Compliance stakeholders, you help ensure smooth cross-border trade while supporting accurate financial reporting and operational continuity.
Your main tasks and responsibilities
Customs Compliance & Operations
- Manage day-to-day customs activities across Yanmar Europe entities
- Ensure correct product classifications and maintain customs master data, including tariff codes
- Monitor customs clearance and transit procedures and resolve customs-related issues
- Maintain accurate import and export documentation and customs records
- Build and maintain relationships with customs authorities and external customs brokers
- Maintain customs-related data within SAP/S4HANA
Export Control & Trade Compliance
- Execute export control checks for customers, suppliers, and transactions
- Perform KYC and restricted party screening using approved compliance tools
- Maintain and continuously improve the Yanmar Export Control Framework
- Support and coordinate activities with the Export Control Committee
- Ensure compliance with export regulations, trade sanctions, embargoes, and dual-use legislation
Advisory & Business Support
- Advise internal stakeholders on customs, VAT, and export control matters
- Support departments with import/export requirements and compliance documentation
- Guide regulatory changes affecting business operations
- Identify compliance risks and recommend practical process improvements
Governance, Controls & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures, and external regulations
- Monitor and strengthen controls within customs and export control processes
- Support standardisation and optimisation initiatives within the shared services organisation
- Contribute to internal and external audits, inspections, and compliance reviews
Stakeholder Management
- Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders across the EMEA region
- Collaborate with Supply Chain, Logistics, Sales, Finance, and Compliance teams
- Act as a trusted advisor for customs and trade compliance matters
- Foster a proactive compliance culture and support cross-functional collaboration
Who are we looking for?
The ideal Customs & Export Control Specialist is a detail-oriented trade compliance professional with strong knowledge of customs regulations, export control legislation, and international trade processes. You are comfortable working in a complex, international environment and have experience managing customs operations, compliance controls, and regulatory requirements. With strong analytical skills and a proactive mindset, you can identify risks, provide practical advice, and drive continuous improvements. You are an effective communicator who builds strong relationships with stakeholders, ensures compliance, and supports efficient business operations.
The ideal candidate
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in customs, international trade, or a related field • Relevant certifications in customs or trade compliance
Strong knowledge of EU & international customs regulations, VAT, and export control laws and have worked closely with authorities and partners to keep shipments running smoothly
Experience with customs declarations, tariff classification, and import/export processes
In-depth knowledge of customs procedures, export control regulations and dual-use goods requirements: essential for maintaining compliance
Competent with ERP systems and trade compliance tools
High attention to detail and a compliance mindset
An analytical mindset, enabling you to spot potential risks early and proactively address them
Ability to work cross-functionally in a multinational environment
Strong communication with both internal stakeholders and authorities
Candidate needs to be able to work independently as well as in a team
Fluent in English, both verbal and written. Other languages (especially Dutch) are an advantage

This position is based in Almere, the Netherlands. Hybrid working is possible.
