About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Customs Agent (Douanedeclarant) to support import/export customs operations and trade compliance activities within the Netherlands and EU logistics environment.
The successful candidate will independently manage customs declarations, customs documentation, and operational coordination while ensuring full compliance with Dutch Customs Administration requirements and EU customs regulations.
This role is ideal for someone with hands-on customs brokerage or freight forwarding experience who can work accurately in a fast-paced international logistics environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and submit import, export, and transit customs declarations using DMS/NCTS systems.
- Coordinate customs clearance activities with freight forwarders, customs authorities, warehouses, and transport providers.
- Manage customs procedures through Portbase and related logistics platforms.
- Classify goods using HS/TARIC codes and apply Incoterms correctly.
- Support VAT and import duty procedures, including Article 23 processes where applicable.
- Maintain accurate customs and operational records in accordance with Dutch and EU regulations.
- Monitor customs compliance requirements and support internal operational improvements.
- Assist during customs inspections, audits, or shipment-related investigations.
- Communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders regarding customs matters.
Requirements
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience within Dutch customs brokerage, customs operations, or freight forwarding.
- Experience using DMS, NCTS, Portbase, and Microsoft Excel.
- Good understanding of Dutch customs procedures and EU customs regulations.
- Experience with HS/TARIC classifications and customs documentation.
- Fluency in Dutch is required.
- Professional English communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Valid authorization to work in the Netherlands and possession of a BSN number.
Preferred Qualifications
- FENEX, EVO Fenedex, or equivalent customs declarant certification.
- Experience handling Rotterdam port customs operations.
- Knowledge of AEO procedures and trade compliance standards.
- Experience within sea freight, air freight, or e-commerce customs operations.
