The role:
The Consolidation Specialist is part of the Accounting and Consolidation team and is responsible for the timely and accurate execution of the month end close and consolidation process. The role owns management reporting actuals, prepares consolidation entries, accruals and recurring accounting calculations, and ensures strong control, documentation and data quality in an Excel-based reporting environment. He / she supports SOX-compliant close execution, partners with FP&A on actuals and variance analysis, and contributes to the implementation of a future consolidation and reporting system.
Areas of responsibility:
- Execute the month end close and consolidation process by preparing the consolidation entries, eliminations, reclassifications and other group-level journals.
- Prepare recurring accounting calculations for established areas such as IFRS 16, IFRS 2, convertible instruments and other group-level calculations based on approved methodologies.
- Own management reporting actuals and partner with FP&A team on preparation of the monthly management report.
- Analyze balance sheet, profit and loss and cash flow movements and prepare month over month, actual versus budget and actual versus forecast variance explanations.
- Maintain, update and control Excel-based consolidation files, close workbooks and supporting schedules to ensure accuracy, consistency and auditability.
- Ensure proper documentation of the work performed, including reconciliations, balance specifications, spreadsheet controls and SOX controls.
- Participate in improvement projects related to close, controls and implementation of a future consolidation and reporting system.
- Coordinate and provide reporting input for the latest estimate and budget process, including accounting assumptions, judgmental areas etc. Support preparation of the BS and CF statements for latest estimate and budget scenarios.
Knowledge:
- Master’s degree, preferably in Auditing, Accounting, Finance or in a comparable study in combination with a professional qualification such as ACCA, RA, CPA or equivalent.
- Strong accounting and consolidation skills, with eye for detail and first-time right mentality.
- Good knowledge of IFRS, internal control / SOX requirements and financial reporting.
- Advanced Excel skills, data analysis skills and ability to work with large datasets
- Familiar with SOX and the administrative documentation of the work performed.
Experience:
- At least 4 years of proven experience in technical accounting, consolidation or financial reporting or external audit.
- Ideally working experience with a Big 4 audit firm and / or in a listed company environment.
- Experience in Excel-based reporting and consolidation processes.
- Experience in supporting system implementation and process improvement is an advantage.
- Working experience in a multinational, multicultural company
