Arnold & Porter is seeking a highly skilled Senior Paralegal to join its EU and Dutch Life Sciences and Regulatory practice in Amsterdam. The Senior Paralegal will work closely with our Amsterdam attorneys and colleagues across the firm’s international offices, supporting complex regulatory, advisory and contentious matters for pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical-device and other life sciences companies.
The ideal candidate will have experience analyzing EU and national legislation and public policy, as well as working within or with governmental institutions or competent authorities. The role requires excellent research, analytical and drafting skills and the ability to translate complex legal, regulatory and policy developments into clear and practical written materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyze EU and Dutch legislative, regulatory and policy developments relevant to the life sciences sector.
- Conduct research into EU legislation, implementing measures, guidance, policy documents and Dutch laws and regulations.
- Research the practice and decision-making of EU institutions, Dutch ministries, regulatory bodies and other competent authorities.
- Prepare clear and concise memoranda, briefing notes, legislative histories, timelines, presentations and regulatory updates.
- Analyze the implementation and practical application of EU legislation at national level.
- Compare legal and regulatory requirements across different jurisdictions.
- Review and synthesize complex legal, scientific, technical and policy materials.
- Support lawyers on regulatory advisory matters, administrative procedures, investigations and litigation.
- Assist with preparing submissions, correspondence, consultation responses, document bundles and other matter-related materials.
- Coordinate multi-jurisdictional research and input from clients, local counsel, experts and colleagues in other offices.
- Monitor regulatory consultations and decisions and assist with preparing meetings and interactions with governmental institutions and competent authorities.
- Contribute to client briefings, publications, training materials, business-development initiatives and the practice group’s internal know-how.
Qualifications
- A completed bachelor’s and master’s degree in law, European studies, public administration, political science, economics or another relevant discipline.
- A strong academic record.
- Minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience.
- Experience in a highly regulated sector, such as life sciences, healthcare, energy, sustainability or financial services, would be an advantage. Previous experience in private practice, another legal environment or a dedicated paralegal position is welcome but not required.
- Demonstrable experience analyzing, interpreting, developing or implementing EU legislation, regulation or public policy.
- Experience working within, with or in relation to government institutions, EU institutions, regulatory bodies or other competent authorities.
- Excellent written and spoken Dutch, at native level, and fluency in English.
- Excellent research, analytical and drafting skills, with the ability to communicate complex matters clearly and concisely.
- Strong organizational and project-management skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Sound judgment, strong attention to detail and a consistently high standard of accuracy.
- A collaborative and professional approach, combined with the ability to work independently and take ownership of assignments.
- Ability and willingness to work flexibly as part of a small, internationally oriented team.

The anticipated base salary for this position is €75,000 - €100,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
The firm may provide a discretionary bonus annually.
