The Fintech Business Unit at Booking.com aims to remove financial friction from the travel experience for both travellers and accommodation partners. The BU is a critical enabler of the broader company vision/strategy and has (and will continue to) experience significant growth - in terms of people, revenue, and scope.
In this role, you will lead a team of technical program and project managers working on the delivery of the BHFS (Booking Holdings Financial Services) program. This program is a critical initiative for Booking.com, focused on regulated payment and e-money services, and involves over 800+ people. BHFS will enable Booking.com to provide better payment services to its partners, ensure the safety and security of funds, improve financial control, and enhance partner reporting.
Group Technical Program Managers have demonstrated experience leading large cross-organizational software development projects, and have a deep technical background, ideally within e-commerce, payments, and/or regulatory contexts. They must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. This means they are not only able to develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives, but can also roll up their sleeves, dig in, and help drive change. An ability to take large, complex projects and break them down into manageable pieces, develop functional specifications, then deliver them in a successful and timely manner is expected. They should be entrepreneurial, innovative individuals who thrive on solving tough problems. This is a high visibility role and maturity, high judgment, negotiation skills, ability to influence, analytical talent, and leadership skills are essential to success in this role.
This role manages a team of ~10 people (including contractors) and is responsible for setting clear direction, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture, encouraging professional development and growth, and promoting a positive and inclusive work environment.
Key Job Responsibilities and Duties:
Spearhead delivery of enterprise-wide technical solutions.
Establish delivery approaches that break organizational barriers, improve decision making, and increase velocity.
Identify opportunities to remove complexity in end-to-end product solutions across departments as part of program delivery.
Introduce industry-leading agile delivery practices, create reusable delivery patterns, and visualize and track delivery using tools like Jira.
Serve as an effective bridge between different disciplines (engineering, security, product, commercial) and organizational levels (EM / Director / VP).
Solution with product and engineering teams to design systems and products.
Organize and run governance for large complex programs with many (senior) stakeholders and decision makers.
Strong storytelling skills to breakdown complex technical information in layman's terms ensuring clear, concise status reporting to organizational leaders and stakeholders that don't necessarily have a technical background.
Direct management responsibilities for (Technical) Program Management team, providing performance reviews, continual feedback, coaching and career growth.
Collaborate with the wider TPM community to foster continuous improvements and shared learnings.
Role Qualifications and Requirements:
10-12+ years in software delivery / technical program management, leading large cross-organizational software development projects.
Deep technical background, ideally within e-commerce, payments, and/or regulatory contexts. Likely you have a Computer Science / Engineering Bachelor's degree or related technical field.
Experience moving technical or engineering programs or products from inception to delivery. Solid understanding of enterprise-wide architecture and able to translate designs into cross-department delivery structure - including multi-year roadmaps, OKRs, milestones, and success metrics.
Expertise in technical program management methodologies such as Scaled Agile, SaFe, LeSS, PMP, and an advanced user of Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence, OBoard), Google Workspace, and Miro.
Able to tell a clear story to senior leadership and drive decision making.
Able to function well within ambiguity and in a constantly changing environment.
Strong problem solver: able to identify challenges and opportunities and drive solutions independently.
Exceptional ability to manage and partner with diverse stakeholders, including cross-functional, multi-disciplinary, and senior leadership teams across different time zones.
Proven experience managing a high-performing team, ideally including people managers (managing managers).
