We are hiring a Global IT Management Consultant to help ING solve complex technology and transformation challenges at enterprise level. This role sits at the point where strategy, operating model and execution meet. You will help leaders make better decisions on how ING organises, governs and improves technology so that strategic ambitions can be delivered in a practical and controlled way.
You will structure ambiguous problems, assess facts and data, develop clear recommendations, and support leaders in turning decisions into implementation. The work can range from strategy and target operating model design to governance, performance improvement and major change initiatives. In all cases, the purpose is the same: bring clarity, rigour and momentum to technology topics that matter to the bank.
Examples of work you may do include:
Defining an IT strategy or target operating model for a priority domain such as AI, Cloud, Reliability or Cybersecurity
Assessing the impact of new regulations, technology trends or internal performance issues on IT priorities
Designing governance, decision-making, team structures or delivery processes to improve execution
Building business cases, management storylines and implementation plans for senior stakeholders
The team
You will join ING’s Global Consulting team, the in-house consultancy within COO Tech & Transformation. The team combines management consulting and technology consulting capabilities and works across the bank on high-priority topics. We support senior leaders on questions that cut across strategy, organisation, governance, execution and performance. Compared with external consulting, the work is less about producing advice in isolation and more about helping ING make decisions that can be implemented in its real operating context. You will work with senior stakeholders, subject-matter experts and delivery teams across business and technology, often on topics with high visibility and material impact.
Roles and responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
Frame complex technology or transformation problems, identify root causes, and develop structured recommendations
Translate strategic objectives into concrete operating model choices, roadmaps, milestones and measurable outcomes
Use data to assess performance, quantify issues, test assumptions and support evidence-based decisions
Work with stakeholders across business and technology to build alignment, challenge constructively and drive decisions forward
Support execution by identifying risks, dependencies and delivery implications early and helping teams stay focused on outcomes
Develop clear papers, presentations and executive storylines that allow senior management to make informed choices quickly
How to succeed
To succeed in this role, you need to combine consulting rigour with practical execution strength. That means you can break down complex problems, work comfortably with senior stakeholders, and move from analysis to recommendation to implementation support.
We are looking for a candidate with the following profile:
At least 5 years of experience in strategy or management consulting at top-tier consulting firms (hard requirement)
A Master’s degree, for example in Industrial Engineering, Information Management, Data Science, Engineering or a related field
Strong understanding of technology, IT organisations and operating models, with the ability to connect technology decisions to business impact
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a structured approach to breaking down ambiguity and forming clear conclusions
Strong command of Excel and PowerPoint, with the ability to analyse data confidently and turn findings into clear executive-grade management insights
Strong stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to challenge constructively and the judgement to adapt your approach to the context
Resilience, adaptability and comfort working in an environment where priorities can shift and not everything is predefined
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; Dutch is a plus
Experience in financial services is an advantage, including familiarity with regulated environments, complex organisations and large-scale change
