Accounting Manager, based out of Geleen, Chemelot Industrial Park, the Netherlands, is a key role supporting the business unit Avient Protective Materials. This role has primary responsibility for preparation and support of various aspects of the monthly close process, responsible for preparing statutory accounts, managing audits, support for tax provision and tax filling, following global accounting policies and other ad-hoc projects for the business.
This role faces several key customers as part of both daily responsibilities and as part of project teams, including Finance, Business Unit Finance, Tax, Treasury, Legal and Corporate Accounting.
Essential Functions
The Accounting Manager ensures the integrity of Financial Statements in accordance with Avient Accounting Rules and local, statutory accounting standards and needs to:
Lead NL statutory audit and compliance - coordinate the process within APM, including accounting and tax.
Liaison with Avient EMEA Statutory team, corporate accounting, external accounting firm and auditor to deliver audit requirements.
Coordinate APM NL compliance deliverables, such as CBS (national statistics bureau) reporting, Chamber of Commerce (KVK) filing, Corporate income tax filing, Transfer Pricing local file, Filing deadline extension, and intercompany agreements for accounting or fiscal compliance purposes.
Support the preparation and maintenance of accurate and timely monthly reporting and statutory accounts in compliance with relevant regulations and standards
Support the Team for Tax provision and VAT declaration preparation
Providing oversight on certain control reviews and control implementation
Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies within the finance function, implementing best practices to enhance productivity and accuracy.
Support regional and corporate initiatives
Other projects according to business requirements
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Manages all SAP general ledger and fixed accounting activities. Primary responsibilities include managing the monthly and quarterly closing process for multiple separate company financial statements, including providing direct oversight to the fixed asset and other corporate accounting functions and preparing journal entries and reconciliations of judgmental and/or complex balance sheet and income statements accounts.
- Owns initiatives to improve and create new process where applicable, to optimize and standardize our global accounting processes. Manages team members and works cross functionally with those in other areas,
such as Analytical Finance, Treasury and Tax, to drive process improvements that result in more effective and efficient monthly and quarterly close processes.
- Responsible for leading the efforts to finalize the preparation of daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual accounting requirements, including, but not limited to, journal entries, reconciliations, analysis of activities and reporting. Specific areas of responsibility include primary oversight of the Corporate fixed assets accounting
process and capital authorization approval process, execution and continuous improvement of monthly COPA assessment process, various judgmental accruals and reserves, as well as assistance with other miscellaneous close activities.
- Assists and provides cross functional support, guidance and escalation management of activities from our internal business partners.
- Takes ownership and drives completion of other activities and processes such as SOX, external audits and internal audits.
- Other projects as needed.

Education and Experience
We are looking for an experienced, ambitious and talented team player with:
5 years + experience in Accounting and Corporate Income Tax with preference experience with a Big 4
Master’s degree in accounting, ACCA or local equivalent preferred
A self-starter with excellent inter-personal skills and strong ability of stakeholder management. Can express her/his ideas with ease and flair.
Ability to think in a disciplined, critical and analytical approach
An ambitious and talented team player, with a collaborative mindset, and resilience
Working knowledge of SAP highly desirable
US GAAP, IFRS, Dutch GAAP
