As a key member of our Rotterdam team, you will undertake hull and machinery surveys, casualty and expert witness assignments. You will oversee surveys, mentor junior colleagues, and contribute to business development activities. You will play a key role in ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality client solutions while strengthening our capabilities in casualty investigation, salvage, and expert witness work.
What will you be doing?

Lead and manage complex marine surveying, casualty investigation, and salvage assignments.

Attend vessels following incidents and casualties, investigating and determining the nature, extent, and cause of damage or loss.

Establish probable causes of marine incidents, estimate salvage and repair costs, and advise clients.

Conduct a broad range of marine surveys, inspections, and consultancy assignments, ensuring high standards of technical delivery and client service.

Provide day-to-day leadership, management, and development support to surveyors and other team members within the region.

Develop a comprehensive understanding of ABL's service lines and ensure the successful delivery of key client outcomes.

Prepare, review, and deliver high-quality reports, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with company standards.

Lead the preparation of tenders, proposals, and technical submissions in support of new business opportunities.

Identify and pursue business development opportunities, promoting ABL's services to both existing and prospective local and international clients.

Build, maintain, and strengthen relationships with clients and key stakeholders to support business growth and long-term client satisfaction.

Mentor, coach, and support the professional development of surveyors and junior consultants, sharing expertise and promoting technical excellence.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives, enhancing work processes, operational efficiency, and service quality across the business.

Ensure all operations and reports are completed in accordance with ABL policies, procedures, quality standards, and client requirements.
What are we looking for?

Chief Engineer (STCW III/3).
-
Minimum 10 years' relevant professional experience within the maritime, offshore, surveying, or consultancy sectors.

Strong knowledge of applicable maritime industry standards, codes, and best practices, with the ability to apply them in practical operational environments.

Sound technical understanding of Dynamic Positioning (DP), diving, marine operations, and marine electrical engineering principles.

Demonstrated leadership capability, with experience managing teams, projects, and multiple priorities simultaneously.

Strong commercial awareness and the ability to balance technical excellence with client and business objectives.

Proven ability to build and maintain effective client relationships and deliver high levels of customer service.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare complex technical reports, appraisals, and client deliverables.

Fluent in English.

This position will be based at our office in Rotterdam. You must have the right to live and work in the Netherlands.
