The Role
We are looking for a passionate and knowledgeable Sommelier to join our opening team. You will be responsible for curating and managing our wine and beverage programme, guiding guests through expertly selected pairings that elevate our Indian and Nepali cuisine. With your expertise and warm approach, you will play a key role in creating memorable dining experiences at Satkara.
Responsibilities
- Curate and maintain an exceptional wine list that complements our Indian and Nepali fine dining menu
- Provide expert wine and beverage recommendations and pairings to guests with confidence and warmth
- Manage the wine inventory control, ordering, and proper storage
- Conduct tastings and train front-of-house staff on wine knowledge and service standards
- Greet and engage with guests, ensuring a personalised and memorable experience at the table
- Handle cash and card transactions accurately and responsibly
- Maintain a clean, organised, and hygienic work environment in line with food safety regulations
- Stay up to date with wine trends, new producers, and emerging regions to keep the programme fresh and exciting
- Assist with catering, banquet events, and special wine dinners as required
- Contribute to a welcoming atmosphere by delivering excellent guest experiences at all times
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a sommelier in hospitality, preferably in a Michelin starred fine dining or upscale restaurant setting
- Recognised wine certification (e.g. WSET Level 2 or above, Court of Master Sommeliers, or equivalent)
- Deep knowledge of Old and New World wines, with an interest in pairing wines with spice-driven cuisines
- Familiarity with food safety and hygiene procedures
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills in English; knowledge of Dutch is an advantage
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays
- A service-oriented mindset with a keen eye for detail and genuine hospitality
