Role introduction
Claims in international logistics rarely sit with one party. At NewPort Tank Containers, you will coordinate claims involving our tank container fleet from the first notification through investigation, follow-up and final resolution. You gather the facts, build and maintain the claim file, notify insurers where required and keep customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders moving until the case is closed.
This is a hands-on coordination role at the intersection of logistics, contracts and incident management. You will need enough legal grounding to understand transport documents and contractual positions, alongside the judgement to navigate a complex stakeholder environment. Technical tank-container knowledge is valuable, but the ability to ask the right questions, challenge incomplete answers and follow up persistently is even more important.
What makes this role interesting
- End-to-end ownership: follow claims from first notification and evidence gathering through insurance handling, follow-up and closure.
- Legal and logistical mix: work with transport documentation, contractual questions and the practical realities of international intermodal operations.
- Complex stakeholder environment: coordinate customers, insurers, suppliers and internal teams, often with different interests and incomplete information.
- Visible impact: protect claim quality, data accuracy and cost control while supporting professional incident management across the fleet.
What NewPort offers
- A responsible coordination role with end-to-end ownership of claims for an international tank container fleet and visible impact on quality, progress and cost control.
- A salary range from €3,500 to a maximum of €4,500 per month based on a full-time workweek.
- An end-of-year discretionary bonus and pension at Pensioenfonds Beroepsgoederenvervoer with a contribution of one-third employee and two-thirds employer.
- 27.5 vacation days and a commuting allowance of €0.25 per kilometre.
- Flexible scheduling, allowing you to plan your workday between 07:00 and 19:00.
- We are committed to introducing you to NewPort in a fun way, and to the NewPort teams to you. With a comprehensive onboarding program and plan, we work together to ensure you get to know your colleagues, the business, and your role.
- In addition to the onboarding plan, we also keep an eye on your development needs in the longer term: We offer training opportunities and room for advancement.
- And let's not forget: monthly Friday afternoon drinks, an annual summer BBQ with international colleagues, and a spectacular Christmas and New Year's Eve party!
Your responsibilities
Claim intake and investigation
When a new claim is reported, you quickly establish what happened, what evidence is available and what information is still missing. You set up the file, register the case correctly and ensure the right parties are engaged from the start. Rather than accepting the first explanation, you investigate inconsistencies and keep asking until the facts are sufficiently clear to progress the claim.
Follow-up and stakeholder coordination
A claim only moves when somebody keeps it moving. You monitor your claim inventory, maintain a clear view of outstanding actions and follow up with the relevant parties until the case is resolved. You communicate firmly but professionally, adapt to different stakeholders and do not allow a file to stall because information or action is missing.
Administration, data and reporting
Reliable claims handling depends on reliable data. You keep claim, product and unit information accurate in our systems, identify discrepancies and take action when data or interpretations do not align. The quality of your administration also supports the statistical and management reporting used to monitor claims and M&R performance.
Incident management and process control
Claims can form part of wider operational incidents. You support the M&R organisation in coordinating the administrative and claims-related follow-up, while ensuring that agreed procedures are followed and potential compliance or cost issues are made visible. You also work with the Team Leader M&R on broader administrative activities.
What you bring
How you work
- Inquisitive and analytical, with the discipline to investigate inconsistencies and get to the facts before drawing conclusions.
- Persistent and persuasive: comfortable challenging others, negotiating where needed and following up until commitments are met.
- Accurate and structured, with strong ownership of claim files, data quality, actions and deadlines.
- Customer-focused and collaborative, able to listen carefully and communicate effectively with very different internal and external stakeholders.
Must-have candidate requirements
- Education at MBO level 4 or equivalent.
- Experience in logistics, transport, claims or insurance, with a practical understanding of how the logistics chain works.
- Professional proficiency in Dutch and English at C1 level, spoken and written.
- Strong verbal, listening and written communication skills, with confidence dealing with multiple stakeholders.
- High accuracy and confidence working with Microsoft Office and administrative information systems.
- A critical, results-driven approach and persistence in following up missing information and actions.
Nice to have
- Legal knowledge relevant to logistics, including basic contract law and transport documents such as Bills of Lading.
- Technical knowledge of tank containers and common damage or maintenance issues.
- Knowledge of ADR and IMDG requirements.
- Experience with claim handling, insurance processes or incident management in transport or logistics.
