Sous Chef – Sassy’s Diner (Amsterdam Noord)

Position: Full-time (Wednesday–Sunday)
About Us
Sassy’s Diner is a new fast-paced, diner style restaurant located inside Oedipus Brewery in Amsterdam Noord. Our kitchen is focused on delivering high-quality dishes in a busy, energetic setting, with a strong emphasis on consistency, creativity, and execution. We regularly develop specials and evolving menu items, giving the team space to contribute ideas and refine dishes.
The Role
We’re looking for an experienced and driven Sous Chef to help lead the kitchen team. You’ll take responsibility for maintaining high standards during service, driving consistency and quality, and playing a key role in developing specials and mentoring the team.
Responsibilities
- Support the Head Chef in the day-to-day running of the kitchen
- Lead service and manage the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence
- Ensure consistently high standards of food quality and presentation
- Oversee prep, ordering, and stock control
- Contribute to menu development and creation of specials
- Train, mentor, and develop junior kitchen staff
- Maintain clear and effective communication with the front of house team
- Ensure food safety, hygiene, and HACCP standards are upheld
- Help build and maintain a positive, focused kitchen culture
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience as a Sous Chef or strong Chef de Partie ready to step up
- Strong leadership and organisational skills
- A hands-on approach with the ability to lead by example during busy service
- A sharp eye for detail and commitment to quality and consistency
- Experience with stock control, ordering, and kitchen administration
- Confidence in training and motivating a team
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
- Flexibility and reliability (weekend availability required)
