An exciting role as a General Manager in our Facility in Wijk bij Duurstede, Netherlands.
The General Manager (GM) is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and growth of Pherobank. This role combines strategic oversight with day-to-day operational management, leading a cross-functional team that includes R&D chemists, production staff, and administrative personnel.
The GM ensures efficient daily operations, scientific innovation, regulatory compliance, and commercial success while maintaining a collaborative, agile environment.
This involves a range of activities including:
Business & Operational Leadership
- Manages all daily operations, including production, inventory, supply chain, and order fulfillment.
- Ensures consistent product quality and on-time delivery of pheromone lure products.
- Develops and manages budgets, forecasting, and financial performance.
- Identifies and implements process improvements to enhance efficiency and scalability.
R&D and Technical Oversight
- Leads and supports R&D chemists in developing and improving pheromone formulations and delivery systems.
- Sets priorities for product development aligned with market needs (e.g., agriculture, forestry, pest control).
- Bridges communication between technical teams and commercial or customer-facing activities.
- Stays informed on emerging technologies, competitors, and innovations in semiochemicals and pest management.
Regulatory & Compliance
- Ensures compliance with applicable regulations (e.g., Dutch Environmental Protection Agency requirements for pheromone products, safety standards, and labeling).
- Manages documentation, product registrations, and quality assurance processes.
- Maintains safe handling, storage, and production practices for chemical materials.
- Complies with all Pherobank environmental and safety policies and procedures.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Commercial & Customer Engagement
- Supports sales efforts, including key customer relationships, technical support, and product education.
- Collaborates with distributors, agricultural partners, and research institutions.
- Identifies new market opportunities and contributes to business development strategies.
People Leadership
- Manages and mentors a small, multidisciplinary team, including chemists, production staff, and administrative personnel.
- Fosters a collaborative, accountable, and innovative culture.
- Manages hiring, performance management, and employee development.
- Ensures clear communication and alignment across all functions.
Administrative & Financial Oversight
- Supervises administrative functions including payroll, purchasing, and vendor management.
- Manages contracts, vendor relationships, and cost controls.
- Ensures accurate recordkeeping and reporting.
You offer…
- A Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology, or related field required. Advanced degree (M.S. or MBA) preferred.
- Seven to twelve or more years of experience in agriculture, pest control, or related industries preferred.
- Prior leadership or general management experience in a small or mid-sized company strongly preferred.
- Experience working with R&D teams and technical product development.
- Strong operational and business management skills in a small-company environment.
- Able to speak Dutch and English fluently.
- Ability to lead both scientific and non-technical teams effectively.
- Working knowledge of chemical formulation, manufacturing, or product development processes.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements for chemical or agricultural products.
- Financial acumen, including budgeting and cost management.
- Hands-on, adaptable leadership style with a willingness to “wear multiple hats”.
- Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
