As the leading U.S.-based non-profit study abroad provider, CIEE (the Council on International Educational Exchange) serves nearly 350 U.S. college and university consortium members, operates in centers across the globe, and supports study abroad programs for over 15,000 U.S. college students annually.
Celebrating its 33rd anniversary in 2026, the CIEE branch in Amsterdam offers two semester programs in cooperation with both the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU) as well as a wide array of customized and summer programs for U.S. university students and faculty. Each year, the CIEE Amsterdam Study Center welcomes around 600 students on programs that span two weeks to a full year.
Summary of Position
The Finance & Operations Specialist will support the CIEE Amsterdam team in the areas of finance, operations, and administration, including:
(1) (70%) Having primary responsibility for bookkeeping, transaction data entry, forecasting, and monthly account reconciliation as well as assisting the team in budget tracking, reimbursements, paying invoices, monitoring variances and accruals, and tax accounting.
(2) (20%) Assisting in overall operations and facility management of the CIEE Amsterdam Center, including vendor management, supplies and subscriptions, liaising with maintenance and cleaning staff, and ensuring smooth functioning of the office space.
(3) (5%) Attending and facilitating student activities and excursions, working together with the Student Life Team to ensure high quality programming via logistical and financial support.
(4) (5%) Supporting the team in cyclical projects including academic, summer, custom, and high school programs and program development.
This position is ideally suited for candidates with a strong financial background who are detail-oriented and haveinterest in working in the field of international education.
Requirements
- Minimum education: BA/BS in accounting, business administration, or comparable
- Minimum 3 years of experience in bookkeeping, account reconciliation, forecasting, and budget tracking for a non-profit or similar organization
- Strong financial, bookkeeping, and quantitative skills
- Proficient in data management/systems, Excel, Salesforce, Netsuite, Adaptive experience a plus
· Fluent in English, Dutch a plus
· Superior written and verbal communication skills
· A commitment to customer service and professionalism
- Strong attention to detail and project management skills
- Ability to work well independently and as a team player
- Familiarity and interest in U.S. culture; study abroad experience is a plus
- Authorized to work in The Netherlands
