Welcome to Maastricht University!
Not everyone who is good at computer science wants to teach it. And not everyone who teaches it, wants to shape it. If you do, you're exactly who we're looking for.
We are the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) at Maastricht University, the youngest science faculty in the Netherlands. Since our founding in 2018, we've grown into a community of more than 3,800 students and 500 staff members, spread across four cities in Limburg. We are ambitious, committed to both our education and research and just a little bit rebellious.
We run a Bachelor's programme in Computer Science we're proud of, and rightly so, because a lot of work has gone into building it. We are now looking for a Programme Director to take it further. One who understands that in a field where yesterday's best practice is today's legacy system, good education is a moving target. Who believes in teaching students to think, adapt, and build things that hold up under pressure or spectacularly fall apart, depending on the assignment.
Our ideal candidate has a strong background in a relevant STEM area and a proven educational track record. But if your CV isn't perfect, don't let that stop you. Skills can be learned. What's equally important to us is harder to put on a CV: the kind of person who respects what exists and has the courage to change what should be changed. This is a role for someone who finds genuine satisfaction in shaping education.
Candidates get the opportunity to maintain their research line active at the Department of Advanced Computing Sciences (DACS). It is Maastricht University’s largest and oldest department broadly covering the fields of artificial intelligence, data science, computer science, mathematics and robotics. Over 100 researchers work and study in the DACS whose roots trace back to 1987.
- Our goal: A Bachelor's programme in Computer Science that prepares students not just for the field as it is today, but for the field as it will be.
- Your colleagues: A multidisciplinary and international team of educators, researchers and support staff united by a genuine commitment to education that makes a difference.
What you do
- Take responsibility for the day-to-day educational management of the Bachelor's programme in Computer Science
- Lead the continuous development and improvement of the curriculum, and advise the Dean on its content and structure
- Oversee accreditation processes and both internal and external quality assurance
- Coordinate with department chairs on staffing and teaching assignments within the programme
- Develop and teach courses, skills and projects within the programme
- Supervise bachelor and master thesis students
- Collaborate regularly with the Programme Committee
- Collaborate with colleagues across FSE and beyond to create synergy between programmes
- Contribute to the further growth of education within the faculty
- Participate in team science on advanced computing sciences (education) for 30% of your time.
Are you ready to set the course for the years ahead? Then we’d love to meet you.
What you bring
Do you recognize yourself in the following:
- A PhD in in Computer Science or a related field;
- An excellent track record, which reflects a strong commitment to science and engineering education;
- Experience with academic educational management at the academic bachelor level;
- An interest in and affinity with emerging technologies (think cybersecurity, IoT, quantum and cloud computing, extended reality, or AI technology) is a plus. Research expertise in these areas is not required, but intellectual curiosity about where the field is heading is.
- An excellent command of the English language and you flourish well in an international setting and rapidly developing environment.
What we offer
At Maastricht University, you’ll work in an international, open, and engaged environment. We offer:
- A 18-month contract with a scope of 1.0 FTE and the prospect of a permanent contract based on mutual satisfaction.
- A gross monthly salary between €6512,00 and €8673,00 (based on full-time employment of 38 hours per week). 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus.
- 29 vacation days (based on full-time), four additional days off (Carnival Monday and Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day), and the possibility to accrue up to 12 extra days through compensation hours.
- Flexible working hours, a home office allowance, and the option to work from home.
- Freedom and space to shape your work independently and develop your ideas.
- A close-knit community of colleagues to collaborate and grow with.
- A solid pension plan via ABP, company fitness schemes, and access to various university sports facilities.
- An inspiring work environment in the heart of Europe.
