The role:
We are seeking a Head of Country Operations – Container Logistics & Customs, based in our Rotterdam office, to play a key role in transforming and strengthening our freight forwarding proposition in the Netherlands.
In this role, you will lead and organise operational teams responsible for delivering a broad portfolio of freight forwarding and ground solutions. You will ensure the efficient, compliant, and cost-effective movement of goods across ocean import and export, customs clearance, and intermodal operations.
You will build and develop high-performing operational teams, fostering strong engagement, accountability, and continuous development. A critical part of the role is shaping a future-proof operation, with a clear vision for transformation; leveraging data-driven decision-making, process optimisation, and scalable ways of working to support sustainable growth.
This role reports to the Director Freight Forwarding EMEA and has line management responsibility for a team of ~75 FTE.
Our office is located in Rotterdam (Waalhaven Zuidzijde 19 – Port City building) but we will relocate to the city center of Rotterdam end of 2026.

Proven senior level (change-) management and leadership experience within a freight forwarding or logistics environment.

Demonstrated responsibility for operational delivery and full P&L ownership.

Proven track record in driving digitalization and supporting transformation initiatives

Strong, hands-on understanding of end-to-end ocean freight operations, including import, export, and customs processes.

The ability to work effectively within a global matrix organization, adopting a collaborative and inclusive leadership style.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven mindset and the ability to navigate ambiguity.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, enabling effective interaction across all organizational levels and cultures.

Experience with FCL operations (truck and barge); experience in temperature-controlled transportation is a strong advantage.

Professional proficiency in English and Dutch is a must.
